Default Applying to FAA

Anybody applied to and been hired by the FAA recently? What is the timeline from application to interview and job? Did you know somebody at the facility you were hired into?
Thanks in advance for the info.

Yes.
Read these two threads:

http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/le...or-thread.html

http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/hi...ion-pilot.html

I recently posted about hiring opportunities.
Most of the information that you are looking for is contained in those two threads and if you search 'FAA', 'Safety Inspector', or similar title keywords you'll find probably a good dozen other threeads with useful information.

No problem.
Keep yourself updated (or subscribed too - though I don't know how to do that) on those particular threads, but I post updates on those threads when I hear something through the grapevine or through more *official* communications.

USMCFLYR,

Thanks for the hyper links. There is some great information out there. Just curious if Sacramento is a possibility for the Airspace Inspection Pilot, if not as a new hire, perhaps down the road? Also do they deploy the 601/5 from that location? Thanks.

S/F,
Larry

SAC is always a possibility - if not initially then on down the road.
People do move within the organization though if by your own request - often PCS costs will NOT be provided.

No - they do not deploy the Challengers out of SAC. It is a Lear60 only base. Until fairly recently you needed to be in the OKC office to fly the Challengers (under the International FIFO umbrella) though over the last few years that has changed and there are International qualified pilots from other bases flying international trips out of OKC and it isn't called the International FIFO anymore (gov't word smithing). The most recent rumor mill has the -604 going to work Alaska permanently (with occassional King Air support for the smaller airfields)

USMCFLYR,

Thank you Sir. I believe the window closes today. Looking forward to what comes next. I live in Napa right now so SAC would be great, but I am willing to move to whatever openings exist. It would also be nice to apply my ten years in the Corps to some sort of government retirement. Take care.
