Alaska Airlines recent hiring window

Has anyone heard from Alaska airlines, after their recent hiring window that closed a month or 2 ago?

Nothing yet. From what I understand, Alaska was going to begin culling applications and calling for interviews after the WAI conference. It's been a week since the conference, so I would imagine they'll start calling soon.

hoover 03-25-2013 01:29 PM

jumpseated last week on them and they said 5 more weeks to go over apps so maybe 4 weeks to go?

Sioux115 03-25-2013 06:55 PM

I was told late march early April for interviews to start. But that was right before the window opened.

hoodabundy 03-26-2013 05:18 AM

I agree with Hoover, a couple people told me they were waiting for WAI and then finish sifting through apps.

skid 03-27-2013 02:12 PM

Last update I heard was a line rumor of calls in the next week or 2 after the holiday. They may have interviews mid/late April. Rumor still says only need 50 or so for the rest of the year (20-30 of the original 80 are in pool already)

32LTangoTen 04-04-2013 03:58 AM

It's after the holiday. Anyone hear anything?

Nothing! No call from the 206, but I'm not really expecting one. My odds are better for winning the lottery.

I'll bet we'll start hearing about calls next week.

Man, 23 years in the Air Force, if I wasn't optimistic and cheery, I'd be broken and bitter! Plus, I know no matter where I end up at, I'm going to love it and enjoy every minute. Anything is better than sitting on the tail gate of a C-130, eating a cold MRE on Thanksgiving, at a field in Pakistan with burning feces in the air!

Alas, I won't be in Vegas, I'm very disappointed about it. My plan was to arrive on Wednesday evening, volunteer with OBAP at one of the area schools and then attend the FAPA job fair on Friday. But, I've got a prior engagement and won't be able to make it. I've already got my hotel and ticket for Chicago in May.

Good luck!

This thread has gone by the way side. Anyone experience a phone call for an AS interview? Or heard from a friend who has?

Have a friend who got a "Thanks for applying, please try again" letter 1 or 2 weeks ago. Other than that, nothing heard.

llindsay 04-17-2013 07:46 PM

There's a thread in the hiring news sub forum with people talking about this over the last few days. Sounds as though a few have received a "thanks but no thanks" email, as they are calling it. Would like to hear if any one has received a phone call. I have heard nothing as of yet (good news??). Hopeful, but trying to remain realistic. Good luck!

ovrtake92 04-18-2013 05:10 AM

I wish I knew lindsay! I'm in the same boat. Good luck to all

Lobaeux 04-18-2013 06:59 AM

I would think no news is good news from Alaska right now. I feel bad for the guys who got the thanks, but no thanks email, hoping somewhere else opens up for them.

Let's hope calls for interviews go out soon!

Best of luck! I put a dollar in Lucky Cat!

mike734 04-18-2013 08:22 AM

I spoke to someone near the CP and they said the next round of interviews is planned for May. They are talking about interviewing 20-30 or so and hiring a class of 10-12. Everyone who is interviewed is qualified. They are looking for people who are "the right fit."

It's a tough nut to crack but if you are the right person, you will be rewarded with a good career.

Wow, and to think we all thought they were going to be hiring about 40-60 and now it's 10-12.

The odds just got longer! I'm going to put two dollars in Lucky Cat now!

New Hire Intel

The latest news I have heard:

3 Bids remaining this year with effective dates of Nov 2013, Dec 2013 and Feb 2014.

Nov = 22 new hires
Dec = 10 new hires
Feb = 24 new hires.

These number are always subject to change and usually do.

2014 and beyond should be around 100 new hires a year till the cows come home. The 5 year pause button is finally just about done.

Good luck to you all. It's a great place to work.

Thanks mudhen! Gives us all some more hope, but I already put $2 in Lucky Cat, can't take it back out!

F-15E's? I was an intel geek with the Chiefs back in the day.

The real story is··········hiring will comence after a contract is signed. Contract is 6 months out minimum. If your source is in the top ten percent then they are not a source. Honest estimates are 20- 40 per year indefinately.

....and BOOM goes the dynamite!

Chance 04-19-2013 02:46 PM

Myself plus four others at work applied during last window. Of those one interviewed last week, one has a scheduled interview. Three of us have heard no news- good news. The first two both had recommendations, us last three did not. Of those two the first had prior 737 PIC and second had just TPIC. Looking for all walks? Or just looking to be walked in?...

Not sure how either had answered questionnaire by the way.

SVA402 04-19-2013 04:29 PM

Just curious, did all have 5000 total time?

Chance 04-19-2013 04:35 PM

Cannot speak for person with upcoming interview, but us other four have 7k+.

SVA402 04-19-2013 04:40 PM

Thanks for the info. Any idea how much notice they've given people for te interview?

surfnski 04-19-2013 06:18 PM

So they are already interviewing? Damn. Sigh.

Alaska Airlines recent hiring window

When I talked to recruiters at WAI they asked if I had any internal recommendations, don't know a soul who works at Alaska. The recruiter told me they had over 3000 applicants & 1200 of those had internal recommendations. I'm trying to remain positive...haven't received the thanks but no thanks email.

Sending out over 2,960 "thanks but no thanks" emails takes time! But I'm being patient. ;)

No... I don't think that is what's happening. I think they are talking about the last hiring window, not this one. They could be poolies. No calls have gone to a single person from last window. As far I'm aware.

My post was implied to mean last hiring window, the February window. Additionally, I have a friend who already got a no thank you from that window.

Airlines Execs should be very nervous

AS is a top-notch airline. The current hiring criteria is 3,000 TT and they dropped the TPIC requirement and yet the only got 3,000 apps! Some of those who applied did not have 3,000 hours or an ATP. I heard JBLU only got 3,000 apps too! So much for those UAL war stories of getting 20,000 apps but that's was back when perhaps the mins were 350TT.

The group of 3,000 perhaps have their applications into Spirit, JBLU, Virgin, Atlas, etc.

The picture I am getting is there is not a large group of pilots out there looking for work.

F15andMD11 04-23-2013 12:44 PM

As far as Alaska, yes there is a larger group of pilots available, but they're smokers.... :D

Lobaeux 04-23-2013 03:15 PM

I can believe that most of the applicants for Alaska have also applied at Airways, Atlas, Spirit, JetBlue, Virgin, United, et al.

What I think it's coming down to is who hires you first. Who gives the first class date.

Alaska would be an awesome company to work for, but the odds are long...

Good luck everyone!

So, they are interviewing then. I'm assuming we all applied during the Feb window?

I think this is true to an extent, however I'd bet that more so than any other company, Alaska has more applicants that haven't applied elsewhere. I've personally talked to quite a few people that are interested in Alaska only, and would otherwise seek out corporate or something non airline.

True. More than any other companies, I'd guess that Alaska and Hawaiian are "geographically-based interest" companies, meaning most people that apply there have an interest in living in base and not commuting.

SVA402 04-23-2013 07:27 PM

Exactly. However I'm counting on that reducing the number of qualified applicants! Haha

flyingnm 04-24-2013 02:15 AM

I applied in the Feb window. I have not received a phone call, nor a "no thank you" email, so I am still hopeful. I have 9000TT, 6500Turbine, 4500PIC Turbine, all 121 time, and a company check airman. Unfortunately, no internal recs. Anybody getting the call for an interview with similar times without recommendations?
