The newest resident business at Melbourne International Airport hosts a job fair Friday, looking for 50 people to fill its first phase of hiring, with hundreds more jobs to come available in the near future.MidairUSA, an airplane repair and refurbishing company, is having its grand opening before the fair.
“We’re going to be filling a wide variety of positions, from engineers to general cleaning,” said company president Bill Moore. “And we’ll be doing the training, so we’d like to see a lot of people with all kinds of backgrounds and abilities.”
Moore encourages the general public as well as job-seekers to come to the job fair that runs from 2 to 7 p.m. at the MidairUSA facility, 100 Aerospace Drive, at the airport because it will include the “rare opportunity” to tour a Boeing 747 that’s been gutted for refurbishing as well as the business’s other facilities.
“We’ll take people through all the shops, from plan engineering to fabrication to installation,” Moore said. “We’ll set up stages to show what each job is like and we’re hoping people will see it and say, ‘Wow, I’ve done something like that,’ and that’ll encourage them to apply for a job.”
Moore said the company also figures to hire 125-150 mechanics, 75 people for its engineering shop and 25 material handlers.
The airport’s executive director Richard Ennis is excited about MidairUSA’s expansion.
“What’s exciting for us in Melbourne is that the jobs (MidairUSA) is offering run the gamut from unskilled workers to doctorates,” Ennis said. “There is enormous expense and risk for a company to make this move, and they’re not coming here because of some big promises, they’re here because they’re inspired by the workforce available.
“This conveys their confidence in this community’s workforce.”

As long as there is no hyphen between "mid" and "air" I'm OK with it ![Big Grin](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
If you ever stop by the Melbourne airport and you see a 747 parked on the north side of the field, that'll be them . . . always cool to see the jumbo birds landing on our neck of the woods. But yeah, that name is kind of weird for a MRO operation or any other aviation biz for that matter . . . may have to ask Mr. Moore himself about why he chose that name.
