Republic
Hi everyone,
I was recently offered a First Officer position at Republic Airways on the E170. Just had a few questions: 1) How is indic/training? Is there a lot of studying that weekends are full of work or is it there enough studying to get it done during the week and just hang out and casually review information over the weekend? 2) As far as limitation are concerned, which limitations should be memorized for the check? I have talked to a few friends on the S5 certificate who said they just have to know bold limitations in their SOP, but wasn't sure what Republic's expectations were. 3) Finally, does anyone find the QC-15 helpful while commuting, sitting reserve, or whatnot? Thanks! |

You'll be studying at any airline you go to, so don't make a decision based upon that.
Every airline you will have to know the "memory items". Some airlines don't even have those anymore. I have had the QC15 since day one and I love them. Wouldn't suggest anything else. |
1. Run
2. Away 3. Fast |

He won't be at the bar because he'll be so exhausted from continuous reassignments that max out the FARs on duty and block. He should just be lucky hes going to republic and not S5, I hear the new CP at S5 is a real treat.

Don't listen to these guys. Republic is one of the best run regionals out there. Bedford is a genius when it comes to running an airline. Lots of growth, everyone I know there absolutely loves it. Congrats on passing thier extremely selective screening process! I only wish they would call me! Patiently waiting by the phone...

No matter how much everyone says stay away from RAH, every "young guy" I meet is pounding down the door for the 175...I don't think you'll have any trouble staffing them.

I, unfortunately, disagree with you. And what follows below isn't directed to you, but all the negative people. I was originally offered the Q and after refusing was offered the 170. I simply didn't want the Q because of two reasons: bases and maintenance. I have a friend who flies the Q and says it's a maintenance headache. With no cancellation pay, it sounds like accepting that, may result in shooting myself in the foot with pay. Since everyone on here complains about the contract and pay, why would that convince me to take the maintenance-filled airplane? Hmmm? Doesn't make since to me. So let's stop accusing everyone of SJS. Simply, nearly everyone on this forum entered the career because of their love for aviation. One doesn't simply decide "one day, I'm going to be a pilot" without having a true aspiration. Are there any good regionals? Some may argue that Horizon is good, or ExpressJet, or SkyWest. Simply, every regional has its flaws. It's not meant to be a career workplace. So, let's stop bashing "young guys" for taking these jobs. OGiven the choice between the airplanes, which would you choose?
PS Spell check is getting on my last nerve! |

I never gave my opinion about the company, just that RAH is on top of the list for all the "young guys" for lack of better term. They all cite the same thing-flying the 175...most have said if they don't get the 175 right out of the gate, they'll apply elsewhere. Just a small sample of the pilot population, but that sample has been unanimous.

Common guys. All regions suck... Some just a little worse than others. There are definitely worse places to go than Republic. You got to start somewhere I guess. I just recently applied to Republic, although it was my 3rd choice as far as regionals go... It gets me the closest to home... If you don't mind me asking, how many hour did you get hired with to get into the 170. Also, Skywest is getting them too, but I have heard they are not hiring straight into them at first. Just what I heard...

I have around 2300TT and 400 ME.

I don't blame people for trying to advance themselves and their careers, please don't misunderstand. I believe most RAH pilots on here say similar things to prospective RAH pilots-like think twice about coming to RAH, but if you do, you won't get snubbed by the pilot group. So far, despite all the attempts to thwart newcomers to RAH, I personally have not observed a lack in interest to go there. When the 175 order first came out, I thought RAH would not even come close to staffing those, let alone the rest of the operation. Much to my surprise, I think my initial judgment will prove to be incorrect. With that said, I really wouldn't mind if the regionals do have a hard time staffing, and particularly the more deadbeat ones. The pressure to improve is a good thing. Finally, I'd like to see all my fellow pilots treated better....shoot every employee at a regional for that matter. |
Hi, little off topic, anyone in the shuttle class the 27th?
and what are the junior bases for the S5 cert? |

Any one for the class of September 16?

Republic
Pm anidem I'm in that class.

Got a conditional offer from Eagle a few months back, and just got the offer from RAH as well. Need 75tt to meet restricted minimums. Any idea if rumors are true that Q hiring is done? Not too good to fly the Q, just more concerned with bases. Also would everyone here agree RAH is the better choice than Eagle given present conditions and future fleet plans?

Any recommendation on cert/bases if given a choice? My only absolute is to avoid EWR

Generally speaking, most pilots are looking to close the gap between them and a major airline. CFIs/91/135 pilots will go to a regional, regional pilots will go to a better one, but most likely try to get on with a major. UAL, DAL, SWA, etc aren't going to hire a straight CFI (unless the shortage myth actually does come true), no matter how many hours he might have. Instructing does "blow" in respects to career progression. You will work much harder than you will at jobs higher up the ladder. With that said, you gotta work your way up & pay your dues. Period.

I interviewed 3 months ago, got offered a job with Republic and the class dates at the time didnt work for me. When I contacted them back for dates, they told me they would get in touch with me and haven't heard anything. Should I keep waiting or try somewhere else?
|
Do they use Jepp or Naco during the interview?
|
They use Jepp plates during the interview.
|
Says the guy who isn't working there....

I recently got hired on the Q-400 and can anyone tell do you get buddy pass's on United or only on Republic? Also since Republic flies for US Airways do we get buddy pass's on them also?
