Alaska Hiring News?

Anyone heard any updates on Alaska hiring this year? I was told at the beginning of the year they were almost done for the year but someone recently mentioned they heard there was more announced...

Interviewing during the summer? Isn't that backwards from how AS has always done it?

Yup. That was the word from The Great Alaska Aviation Gathering last weekend. July/Aug interviews, want 150 in a pool for fall/winter/spring 2015 classes...

flyguy37 05-08-2014 07:57 PM

Anybody got a copy of the new contract?

Jetnfast 05-09-2014 06:15 PM

When do you think the application window will be open based on that forecast interview/hiring?

F15Cricket 05-10-2014 10:15 AM

I heard the same thing at the Alaska Airmen's Trade Show last weekend. I thought I heard them say the application window would open in July'ish.

FYI, I'm hired, just waiting on a training date (they said probably in the fall). So, hopefully, I'll see a lot of y'all getting hired soon after I start work! :D

F15Cricket 05-11-2014 03:33 PM

Just heard someone got called for an early June interview with Alaska!

Packrat 05-11-2014 05:12 PM

Atta boy, Cricket. You'll like it there, especially if you're already an EDF guy. The ANC base is tight.

lpcunity 05-12-2014 08:37 AM

Does anyone have information reguarding the possible June interview sessions and if there is a scheduled July interview session planned?
I've been trying for years to get an interview. I've been to job fairs, meetings with ACPs and Alaska social gatherings. I even have a Check Airmen pulling for me. I don't have any blemishes on my record and I don't think I'm a derelict. Any ideas?

Packrat 05-12-2014 02:14 PM

Your avatar is too scary.

I would gladly change it to a pink bunny snuggling with a bunch of butterflies sitting on a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end if it would grant me an interview.
I just hope my all my efforts get noticed at some point.
Alaska is one tough nut to crack. I'm off to the shed to grab my sledgehammer.

Packrat 05-13-2014 11:04 AM

Best of luck in your quest. My advice...Keep trying, especially if you have a Check Airman in your corner.

Thank you. I'm going to keep at it.

Thanks! Is education one of their heavy points? I know some places (DL) like seeing a 4yr degree finished in... 4yrs with an above average GPA. I was enlisted military and did a 4yr in 6yrs on campus and online with an average GPA.

No...Nothing like DAL. However, make sure you have saved kittens from bears, marched for some cause, been the president of the PTA, HOA, bowling club, been a check airman, volunteered for some committee, born from the chiefs loin and died for your country, you're in....

Jetnfast 05-17-2014 12:17 PM

Any idea when the interview app will open up on Alaska's website for the upcoming hiring?

No--one rumor was they may reopen it this summer, so keep checking.

More seriously, they do highly value community service.

AKpilot 05-22-2014 06:44 PM

Heard interviews will happen twice a month for most of the year. They want to work with apps on hand. Opening the the window requires a lot of work sorting and ranking apps. I get the feeling hiring numbers will increase over what was previously planned.

WiltChamberlain 05-22-2014 09:40 PM

Me likes! Lucky for the apps on-hand:o

jettin 06-18-2014 09:17 AM

New app window coming in July or August that will purge current apps, hiring another 80 this year.

cesnacaptn 06-19-2014 08:11 PM

Just an FYI on the latest bid results published this week. Here are the new hire vacancies to filled by around Nov. 1:

ANC 21
LAX 9
PDX 4
SEA 10

Not all domiciles are offered in each class.

The next bid should be posted by the end of July. If you get hired as a result of this bid, you should be able to transfer to your desired base by January.

Jr. captain by base:

ANC 12/02 DOH
LAX 4/01 DOH
PDX 4/01 DOH
SEA 4/01 DOH

If forecast hiring come to fruition, upgrade times will like fall under 10 years. Jr. captain has a seniority of 1050 with 12 years of service. #1100 has less than 9 years of service, which we could see on the next bid. #1150 has 8 years of service...

Sioux115 06-20-2014 07:20 AM

Roughly 200 next year is the rumor I hear. Anyone else hear that? 800 in the next 5 per a Base Chief?

Packrat 06-20-2014 11:17 AM

Yeah and 2000 by 2000. That never even came close to happening. Sounds like contract renewal time promises.

Dakota Kid 06-23-2014 12:43 PM

Lately, what is the average amount of time between interview and class date?

squall line 06-23-2014 01:42 PM

Alaska Hiring News?

Interviews early June have been getting late July class dates (from a friend).

How is seniority number/base determined in new hire class? Thanks.

Squawk 1277 06-30-2014 07:53 AM

Age of the student.

Numbers are issued by age...oldest first. Then they'll have you fill out a bid sheet and the senior guy/gal in the class will get their first choice of what is available. From the last bid results, it appears all the bases will have openings (some more than others).

Dakota Kid 06-30-2014 01:26 PM

Thank you for the info.

lpcunity 07-01-2014 03:53 AM

Has anybody heard if/when the application window is going to open back up? Are there any interview sessions planned for late summer?
Happy 4th.
Thanks

Alaska Hiring News?

Sorry for yet another question but I have searched and can not find an answer. Maybe it's a limitation of searching via iPhone but that is all that I have to use on this trip. :-(

What is pay during training?

Hotel provided during training?

Guessing 3 months for training & IOE. Sound right?

Again, thank you!

Packrat 07-02-2014 05:58 AM

Don't know about the current answers to the first two questions.

The third is about right, depending on IP availability and how much IOE you need. There are a couple special airports that are required and you'll have to do one Hawaii trip. That can sometimes drag IOE out a little.

However, considering their typical short staffing, they'll try to knock out IOE and get you on the line as quickly as possible.

When you get hired Alaska pays from day one during training. 75 hour guarantee at $53.74 hr for first year pay. Alaska does not pay for a hotel during training. There are crash pads are available in SEA, notices are usually posted in the training center when folks are looking to fill openings.

e6bpilot 07-07-2014 08:49 PM

No hotel? Ouch. I can't imagine a Seattle crash pad is cheap.

Is SEA available right out of training for new hires?
Great company, I am truly surprised that they don't pay for a hotel for new hire training.

Packrat 07-08-2014 04:13 AM

It all depends on the results of the last upgrade bid. The last bid processed had new hire F/O openings in all bases. Most, of course, were in ANC, but if you're the oldest guy in the class, you'll get your choice.

Agreed, but most majors do not provide housing during training.
