The fact is one can live in the area without any harm. There are higher levels of background radiation in certain parts of the US than there are in parts of the exclusion zone.

I really wanted to consider this contract, but I don't feel it's safe to bring the family over.

To fly a Japanese Registered Aircraft you must hold Japanese Certificates... When you come to any Japanese Contract you will Convert Your ICAO tickets to Japanese... You DO NOT surrender your ICAO but present them for proof of Certification... You will complete a Airlaw Exam, Radio Exam, 1st Class Medical, Training Program for the Aircraft followed by a JCAB Type/ATPL sim check... Then you will get you OE which will be anywhere between 40 to 80 legs depending on experience and company...

That's the killer for me. I hold an SI medical with a waiver. I wouldn't get a Japanese medical. I was told they do not, under any circumstances, give waivers.

What does the interview consist of, is there a sim check involved?

The interview is one day... Consist of a personal interview one on one with the President of the Company... Mostly to try and get to know who you are and if you would fit in with the Company... Being small "Harmony" is important and they strive to keep things smooth... May be a few technical questions also... Nothing too great... Then you will do a sim check in a CRJ... Think it will be a -700 this go... Sim check is straight forward if the profile has not changed... Take off and climb on the SID... At altitude do a couple steep turns then descend back to the airport and do a 2 engine VOR approach to a landing... Reposition and do a takeoff with a flameout at V1... Climb out and clean up, vectors for a SE ILS to a landing... All hand flown but you may use the Flight Director as desired...

Not true. Many waivers are issued for various reasons. The medical evaluation is more thorough here true, but not impossible to get a waiver. Depends what it's for really.

Per diem is ¥2500? That's laughable. I love Japan and the contract seems okay... But that's nothing for layovers.

I have Obstructive sleep apnea
I have been told that I wouldn't pass a Japanese medical

Hey Chips

Yeah the per diem is a bit thin... Originally 4000 JPY but back in 2010 in a cost cutting measure that was one of the items to get hit... However many of the over night stays have Breakfast provided and depending on the duty day a Bento placed on the aircraft... If you want to not dip into your pocket there are ways to eat cheap here the same as other locations... Just takes a little effort...

Hey IFCRJ

Not sure what would be disqualifying... However I do know that If it is on your medical as a waiver they will look at it and if it is a disqualifying issue then they will just circle file your CV... So I would say apply if you are interested and let the screening take place... Our Flight Doc is young and very straight forward, great guy but as all by the book... I have been here Since 2009 and only one individual was knocked back during the Medical check during that span... Be sure and list it with your app so the Company can get a reading from the Doc so you don't waste TOO much time... Best of luck...
