Wow!!! That is crazy!!! I am in Sacramento and currently pay $115 an hour wet for a 172N with a 430 and could get one cheaper if I was willing to drive.

That has to be high...
I live in Philadelphia and can rest a C152 for $83, a C172 for $103, a C172N with a Gamin 430 for $113, and a C172SP for about $130.

What exactly is a "government college?"

When regionals offer starting pay in $60-70K range, and "training bonds" become a thing of the past, then I'll be convinced.

Bingo!

Though, as someone starting soon at the regionals, I'm just glad things aren't as bad as they were in the not-so-distant past...

U r now convinced. that is the going rate now ($60K), for new FOs at the regionals...training bonds are long gone at all/almost all regionals.

Yeah and then you take a pay cut in year 2 and onwards until year 4 or 5 CA pay. The whole pay scheme is so screwed up right now.

More fuel for this fire: I've looked into about 8 flying guard/reserve units, and all of them were significantly overmanned and awash in applications.

It appears the only places where there's not a glut of pilots are fighter units and regional airlines with pay under $35k per year.

Side note--don't rule out the defense industry (Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop, etc.) for flying jobs. There are some great opportunities if you can get hired.

No shortage. Not even close.
