Looking for some current Horizon pilots to chime in on this. I am currently with Skywest based in Denver, living in Spokane, and highly considering switching to Horizon. I have a large family, and the schedule/commute is pushing the limits of what I am willing to accept. If I made the switch to Horizon how senior is the GEG base going? and if GEG is out of the question, what bases are new hires getting?
Staying with Skywest until hiring picked-up again for the majors is probably the better option, but Skywest pilots are also metered heavily from what I understand, and the wait may be much longer than anticipated. Thus, why I am considering Horizon.
Thanks in advance

Some context on the KC135 might matter...
Did you do a full AD tour, with usual command time?
Or low time guard baby, or enlisted crew?
So how much regional time do you need to compete for the majors? Do you need to upgrade for TPIC?

At QX you would fly a ton less than OO. Your best bet is OO BOI base. They have direct flights to GEG…SEA second choice…Just a gamble if you would get it at QX. You could get stuck somewhere else for a while…Ot maybe you are CRJ at OO. In that case got to QX…

I have about 700 Hrs in the military, all SIC. Total time sitting around 1800ish and currently flying the CRJ which puts both Boise and Seattle out of the question. Sadly Skywest is not doing many, or maybe none, transitions to the E-jet right now. I have the app's out with all the majors currently hiring but no-joy so far.
The one and only reason for switching to Horizon would be the QOL living in-base. So unless the Horizon guys think getting GEG relatively quick out of training is an option, I will probably just stick-it-out with Skywest.

Otherwise you are doing the right thing, apply everywhere and see who bites and go to RTAG to try and leverage your military experience. Face to face time will help when PIC requirements get reduced or you gain some so get it now so you can be closer to the front of the line.

GEG is a relatively junior base. If you make the jump you may have to commute for a couple months but you'll likely get GEG by the time you consolidate, they let you pick your IOE base.
Seemed like they are opening up to hiring previous 121 time folks, so if you're really looking to live in base you'll be able to do that.
For the person saying they could close the GEG base, I mean its possible at some time in the future but they keep the MFR base open with like 10 lines a month, thered be a full on mutiny if they closed GEG, so I'd say your very safe for a while for the GEG base. At least long enough until you go to the next stop.
Good luck, feel free to DM me if you have any questions.
