What is going on with summer ops?
13 Cancelled flights on the JFK board today. No rain. No storms. No clouds.
Heard (rumor) we canceled 5 x as many flights yesterday as Delta and United... |
Live Airline Flight Cancellations Info & Statistics ? FlightAware
There are the numbers. 65 today. Guessing not due to current weather but due to the wx yesterday and crews/airplanes not being in position, as well as low reserve numbers, along with the weather in Florida disrupting some of the Florida flights? I dunno, I don't look into much anymore. Don't care unless it affects me and my flights/commutes. It's ATC's fault. But delta and AA were just fine in the same ATC system. |
We put out an Ops Advisory due to MX the other day. Yet last week we get an email saying we have plenty of spares.
|
Gosh darn ATC!
|
...and the company will blame it all on ATC.
JB management either doesn't understand that you can't stuff 10 lbs of poop into a 5 lb bag, or they do understand that and this is a convenient excuse for ATC reform. Trying to brainwash our employees and our passengers into believing our pathetic on-time percentage isn't their fault, it's all ATC. We know better. Gup |
Maybe if we give all our 190 flying to a regional we can cancel less (they'll take the CX hits)

GPS? Airlines last to install it. ADS-B? Airlines got exemptions and extended the deadline. Reservations? 1950's programming. But let's privatize the system so it has no accountability to Congress. Because it's the fault of ATC. Scheduling too many flights into an overcapacity airport has nothing to do with it of course. Let me know when ATC gets in the business of building runways. |

Gotta love how the organizations that are last to upgrade their infrastructure- the airlines - squawk most about ATC upgrading its infrastructure.

Actually Endevor cancelled two , Delta none and JB two. Part of our problem *part* is that we take the cancellation hits disproportionally because we operate our own regional flights out of heavily delay prone areas. I'm not saying there aren't operational issues , but all things being equal operationally we still will show more delays and cancellations for the aforementioned reason. |

Yeah I agree. It's a loophole they shouldn't be allowed to get away with. If they're operating a DL or UA or AA flight number it should count against them.

I've haven't seen NY area ATC delays like this Summer since Summer 2001. We all know what happened early that Fall which made all of us quickly forget the ATC issues in short order. This Summer has brought back similar levels of flying (and I believe the same or more passenger emplainment numbers) to the three NYC airports. NY is the last holdout to a "Metroplex" project in which the airspace will be re-designed using OPD STARS and SIDS that allow for fewer level offs and uneconomical flying at low altitudes due to multiple sectors with conflicting politics etc. I don't have the answers but it seems rediculous to have 2 hour taxi times at EWR with the weather we had yesterday (minor cells South and West). The poor woman working "gate hold" sounded completely over taxed and often went silent. It was so clear to the East and North it was almost humorous to listen to the exchange with a Porter Dash 8 flight asking if they had an approved airway only to be issued an hour plus hold. It was a disaster. I've heard "staffing issues" which opens up a whole new can of worms.

Make sure you read the whole thing. |
Seems like ATC is taking notice of Jblue management position that ATC is the root of all evils. Got a messed up clearance today. Potomac apprch asked "Why did u come from there?" Yup. I've heard others grumbling about getting passed up in JFK while OAL (DL) jets go through the takeoff turnstiles.

Here is my example... This is all on us... and maybe my fault too.
Waiting to push for 1 hr from gate 16. You name it we couldn't get it. Looking out my window it's a cluster out on 13L lined up the entire length. ( you see where I'm going with this) We ask for the bridge to be reconnected to reset that clock. Ops response was they didn't have anyone just go. 30min later I call for taxi... 25 min later and 100 yards we start heading back for the gate. Guess how long that took. In the end we timed out... No im not nor did go pass what my little white piece of paper says I'm allowed to. Nobody listens to the captain anymore... Or maybe ever here. Everyone seems to know better than the guy with 20+ yrs of experience. This was just one thing... One that sticks out. Every trip this summer has been like this. Last trip I operated once in four days... Delayed, cancelled, timed out...Great pay but it's not sustainable. |

That is productivity at its finest. I honestly find this operation hilarious. I read the chief pilot updates or the upper management emails and just laugh at how bad we run. The funniest part is how my momma always told me 'Stop looking for someone to blame and just fix the freaking problem.'

Nothing is getting fixed, nothing will change, so I just sit back and watch the sh!tshow unfold! Rinse and repeat... every trip, every week!

Sorry fellas, this is some serious Sh*t we're all dealing with. Be extra cautious, go slow, double check everything. They we're running we're too far off from bending some serious metal. And our attitudes just snow ball it.
