Very solid points. The only reason it wouldn't make sense right now is that U.S. stock prices are at all-time highs right now (i.e. overpriced). That's not to say a M&A couldn't happen, obviously T-Mobile + Sprint just happened. I just have a hard time believing UAL, DAL, or SWA wouldn't want to wait to buy at a discount when the economy inevitably turns.

It's all relative maybe? UALs stock and value are also up right now.

Shouldn't matter if you sell right away . It could be record high , it's still 17% gain if you sell same day

Anyone think the industry turmoil could finally lead to the next consolidation? Stock prices at all time lows right now...here is the downturn everyone said the next merger would be dependent on.

We need a few quarters of crappy financial results, then I think it’s likely to see some mergers.

they report 3/15?

the flipside is if this thing blows over, airlines looking to potentially acquire will have lost an opportunity as the stock prices will probably recover dramatically.

Thats why it will take a while before we see any merger. Today if you approach XYZ airlines with a buyout based on their current share price they will decline because they think this will all blow over in a month or two and their airline is really worth much more than it shows today.

The quarter ends 3/31, and they will likely report at the end of April. As mentioned, the 15th (of any month) is the unofficial/APC designated JB merger announcement day.
