Reserve Question
I recently interviewed and the folks in NY mentioned a way to get 16 days of reserve in a row. I should have asked for more details but didn't... can anyone tell me if it's easy/common for a junior guy to put long reserve stretches together?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

That part of the CBA is due to be implemented in September, and then theoretically you could work all your days in a row. And it is 17 days/mo not 16. I’m not sure it will be easy to put them all in 1 stretch, but if you’re good with Flica and get lucky swapping it might be possible. I wouldn’t count on it all the time though

this might help:
i. During the PBS award process, blocks of Reserve days shall be a
minimum of three (3) days on and a maximum of six (6) days on.
a. A Pilot may waive the maximum of six (6) days on
restriction during the PBS bidding process.
b. A Pilot may select a value to be used as the maximum days
on limit between seven (7) and eighteen (18) during the
PBS bidding process.
...
b. Monthly Reserve distribution
In each Bid Period, the Company shall determine the required number of Reserve lines subject to the following:
i. The Company shall award a minimum of thirty (30) percent Short
Call Reserve lines in each Base and Status.
ii. The Company shall award a minimum of twenty-five (25) percent
Long Call Reserve lines but no fewer than two (2) in each Base
and Status.
iii. All Reserve lines in excess of the monthly Short Call Reserve Line
requirement shall be Long Call Reserve lines.
Days Off
Bid Period / Lineholder / Short Call / Long Call / Days in Bid Period
January 12 13 12 30
February 12 13 13 30
(Leap Year) (12) (14) (14) (31)
March 12 13 12 30
April 12 13 12 30
May 12 14 14 31
June 12 14 13 31
July 12 13 12 30
August 12 13 12 30
September 12 14 14 31
October 12 14 14 31
November 12 14 13 31
December 12 13 12 30
So short call reserves will work 17 days per bid period. Long call reserves will work 17-18 days per bid period. Hence the ability to bid for 18 days of reserve in a row.
**edit: it looked a lot better when i typed that out. i spent a bunch of time spacing it all out to be easy to read. i see it doesn't work that way, so i don't know how to make it into a table or whatever.

Thanks for going above and beyond to answer my question! I am looking at a long commute in the short term and this really makes it easier to stomach.
Thanks again.

Before you get excited about it, let's see if JB actually allows it to happen first. I would love to see it, but have my doubts that it will actually happen. All the company has to do is declare "coverage days" and suddenly your bid means nothing (as a junior person on RSV).

And it states " during the PBS award process". Says nothing about modifying your schedule afterwards in Flica.
I'm doubtful.

I think the only way this is going to work is if you’re getting at least two weekends off in the initial bid. Trying to get out of a weekend rsv period when you’re junior is like trying to.... we’ll lets just say it’ll be really difficult.
But good luck!

Yeah, but we SHOULD be able to bid a 8/9 day RSV stint over a weekend, and enjoy the other 13 days off as 6/7 or perhaps 13 in a row. Theoretically.
