New Hire Info

Hi all,

I have a class date with JB and have been speaking to a few on property with different takes (just happy not to be at a regional, doomsday worst airline ever and the typical "I fly the bare min and go home") and I am trying to seek out as close to realistic information as possible about the first year or 2 at JetBlue.

My Current situation has me away from home 8-15 days a month, flying large cabin (Global and Gulfstreams) around the world for a large fortune 100 flight department. Benefits are very good, current pay is in the mid-100K range with a 15-18% bonus each year, along with stock options. Why considering the change I am sure some will ask? Short answer, I want control over my schedule, maximize time with my family and I am positive pay will not catch up to what one can earn at a 121 carrier.

My questions, and again, just realistic as possible please:

I understand training pay is $2000/m w/ $26 a day (plan on 6-8 weeks) - This is rough but can make it work

How long is reserve out of BOS/JFK for the 190 and 320?

Are you able to exceeded guarantee on either of those equipment types while on reserve?

Can one credit in the 95-100 hour range first year, if not, what can be the expected credit once off reserve?

What seems to be the average gross year one for someone on the 190 or 320?

What is the upgrade times for BOS190, BOS320, JFK190, JFK320?

I know the new reserve rules were just put into place, but how easy is it to change your schedule and or swap/drop trips?

Overall, do you recommend coming to JetBlue? (I have apps out to all legacys, however, JetBlue is currently my only offer)

Thanks a lot guys, I know its just a forum and it's difficult to cipher through factual information on here, but I appreciate your answers and they will help with a career decision. Beers on me if and when we were to meet.

It would help to know if you will live in BOS or JFK?

Your ability to make more money is highly dependent on living in base. Also, to credit 95-100 per month you will most likely be gone at least 15 days a month.

It's possible through RSA (reserve augmentation) at 6:18 credit per day, but I wouldn't count on it or base my budget on it. FO RSA isn't as common as CA RSA.

Can one credit in the 95-100 hour range first year, if not, what can be the expected credit once off reserve?

Once you're off reserve, yes. However 95-100 will have you working 17-19 days, and many junior trips are uncommutable.

I know the new reserve rules were just put into place, but how easy is it to change your schedule and or swap/drop trips?

From what I'm hearing, not at all. There are reports of people unable to swap from a 3-day to a 4-day over the same days, and also from two 2-days into a 4-day over the same days. Therefore I'd imagine swapping into different days is next to impossible under our industry leading scheduling provisions.

Agreed. Schedule flexibility at JB depends on your seniority to get a good schedule award. After you get your monthly schedule, it's VERY hard to turn a bad schedule into a good one. Good trips aren't available in open time and you can't drop bad trips because the reserve grid (needed to drop or change your days worked) is ***ABSOLUTELY*** ***RED***. Period. Can't drop a "red" day.

Congrats. I am also interested in the same kind of info. Can you tell us when you interviewed and when you were called and given a class? When is your class date? Lots of silence for those of us waiting in Phase 2. Thanks

What's the class date? And did they mention more than 1 class date? Rumor has September at 40 folks, maybe 2 September class.

Thanks

I was told the September 11th class is filled. They should start calling people from the pool for a September 25th class & two October classes(I wasn’t told the dates).
