Not sure where some peoples confusion is...the emails clearly said they are approved in the flight deck, but not mandatory. Yes, the FAA did approve it...in my opinion, there is no way a mask protects you all the time especially if not worn/fitted correctly. It just seems really strange how the CDC a month ago said don’t wear masks...now they say we should wear masks???!!! They are grasping at straws.

Friday’s System Chief Pilot memo:

Masks Required Starting Tonight

As Warren announced in his letter earlier this evening, new state and local laws are emerging, requiring the use of face coverings when social distancing measures are not possible. In addition, Pilots are now authorized to wear face masks or coverings during flight.

In response, JetBlue will require the use of face coverings for all frontline Crewmembers working in common areas including, but not limited to, airport terminals, aircraft, breakrooms, galleys, the SOC floor, and other shared spaces. This is in line with the latest CDC guidelines and consistent with our own Safety recommendations.

Crewmembers Must Wear Masks:

·Tonight, Friday, April 17 // 2000 Local time Wherever state or local laws already require face coverings

·Sunday, April 19 // 2000 Local time Everywhere else in our network

If you are in need of a mask, check in the Crew lounges. They have limited supplies for Pilots. Please take just one per day to ensure everyone has an opportunity to pick one up.

Just curious.

Based on what everyone should know now, why wouldn't you wear a mask in the cockpit?

Would you not care for me, my spouse, my children, my parents, my in-laws, my grand parents, my siblings, etc, etc?

I would wear one for you. Why would you not wear one for me?

Honestly, because we’ve been flying around for three months to/from all the hottest danger zones and more than likely have already been exposed. Also, in a confined area over a six hour period between the two of us, I don’t think it makes a difference when considering the sheer amount of surfaces we touch and interact with. You can’t possibly clean/disinfect all of them.
I bring hand sanitizer, and you’re welcome to share.

Authorized does not mean required. It’s up to you. We operated for months without them. I personally don’t believe the job can be done effectively with a face mask.

that logic is just crazy.... I mean I guess nurses should just stop wearing ppe equipment because they are within close personal space to patients for 12 hours a shift. Why even bother with sanitizer if you are going to disregard what the health experts say about masks? I have been upset at Jetblue for not letting people wear masks and now they say you can wear what ever type of mask you want as long as it isn’t vulgar. But let’s be real, pilots know more than anyone, experts in their own mind on all things.

Agree to disagree.
If you want to compare me to a nurse, your logic is also asinine.
Nurses purposely work with sick people who have COVID-19, and interact with hundreds of people. That’s why they wear masks alll day.

Uhhhh... you know the virus doesn’t care if you’re purposefully or accidentally exposing yourself. And it doesn’t know if you’re a nurse, a doctor or a pilot.

Your logic should be more along the lines of, is there a chance that I’ll be exposed at work, and are masks effective tools for reducing transmission rates.

If you find the inconvenience greater than your chances of possibly being infected, hospitalized etc then just say so.
