Is there anyone in the C-suite at JetBlue with merger experience?

The new hire replacing AB apparently has 2 mergers under his belt. I’m not sure at what level he was at during said mergers though.

Doesn’t Robin have experience from when he worked for BA?

What I'm laughing at is that he told you with a straight face that its the number one reason for attrition. Its not. I'm going to blow your mind here, but NK is having the same attrition problem we have even with all of their bases. I can just imagine hearing an FO say "I got a job offer at Delta but I'm not going because B6 has so many bases to choose from!" LOL.

Management just don't want to ever hint that our compensation and career expectations absolutely blow compared to the big three. I don't know if you are new here or not, but ignore what anybody in management tells you at recurrent. They are almost always full of *******.

We can’t fix the base issue tomorrow with virtual bases. Jim S was quite clear that they’d love to do it, but that they haven’t cracked the nut on how to implement it, and that nobody in the industry really has, but if there’s a solution and you know how to do it, he’d love to discuss it. And obviously, the union would have to buy in on it. Point is, virtual bases sound great in theory, but are really difficult to implement in reality. Obviously some of these fractionals and cargo jobs positive space you on first and last day of an assignment and in effect make “home basing” work, but they also run schedules that contain longer assignments/days on than 121 pilots typically have. I’d love for someone to figure it out. But, I don’t see that as a viable solution for the pilots or the company…at least not right now.

Agreed. Bases in ORD/DTW/IAH/DFW/ATL sound great, but with maybe 100-200 crews at each they are still dwarfed by legacies with thousands of pilots at these bases in addition to every aircraft in their fleet available to bid. If you are a newhire living in one of those cities it would be crazy not to go to the legacy based there.

That being said, I am still optimistic about the future of NK/JB and think we will see some good growth opportunities.

Virtual bases at Delta failed (to be even tested after negotiating them) because the union has too many people in certain bases that feel "their" flying will be diluted by pilots starting trips in Florida for example. With modern computers and communications there is no reason that every trip has to start/stop in a major base other than that's the way it's always been done.

DO NOT tell JetBlue you are moving to ord.

JB tried it years ago in Oakland. Plenty of guys up there that loved it. The problem was the sick calls. After a few canceled flights it was over.

Make sure to tell them you plan to live in base. Until the day you actually move it’s all just planning anyways.

I’ve done it for 3 years. Piece of cake. Biggest issue is crashpads or hotels in Boston. FYI I use the train to go to ORD. I hate driving

To be fair, it's not even considered driving if you're not in a Miata.

I did this commute from the other direction for a couple years. For the most part, it's pretty easy. Only missed a flight once or twice. Personally, I was on the jumpseat a lot, but a seat home is a seat home.
