Default Political Grandstanding

https://www.yahoo.com/news/biden-adm...210300769.html

The 5th largest airline in the USA is purchasing the 6th largest airline to create…

the 5th largest airline…

Seems like nothing more to appease some progressives on Twitter.

so if this lawsuit goes through how long do they kick the can down the road before we hear a final decision?

how likely will it be that this merger goes through?

A DOJ lawsuit, I believe, was always largely expected and the reason JB has said first half of 2024. They of course hope to settle with the DOJ without a lawsuit, but are probably more or less expecting the lawsuit and believe they prevail in court, as nearly every other merger has done.

Beyond that, anyone's guess.

So what was the rush again to pass the new contract?

So some low level staffers in the bowels of the DOJ say that their department may or may not file a lawsuit.

Mix in some unrelated meltdown fallout woes from a completely unrelated company and bingo bango you have a clickbait article.

The DOJ filing a lawsuit in this matter means very little to the merger outcome unless they have specific marching orders from on high to fight it at every turn, and Lizzy Warren pontificating on whatever the social injustice de jour is hardly the heavyweight needed to bust up this deal. I seriously doubt this news is making anyone up the corporate ladder lose sleep, but the lawyers will get to pad their fees a bit more.

If you are speaking in regards to the TA that passed at B6. It was to negotiate with the company on pay, per diem and profit sharing to get money in pilots pockets versus doing a full contract negotiation (which they believed would drag out). The union said the reason for this was because if the acquisition goes through we'd have to negotiate a whole new JCBA with the spirit group and by the time they negotiated a full contract for only B6 they are expecting to be working on a JCBA. So instead of dragging out negotiations on a full contract they negotiated those 3 items. If it doesn't get approved then back into full contract negotiations we go. That was at least the gist of it.

I said this on the other thread, but leadership has been saying all along, internally and externally, that they expect DOJ to sue. DOJ needs to decide if they’re going to let this merger play by the same rules they let DL, AA, WN, AS, and UA play by with their mergers or suddenly say they’re changing the rules of the game.

As a pilot here, my view is it’s idiocy that DOJ is trying to block us from growing. But then again a lot of what this government does is idiocy.

A ctually, what they need to decide is how much they can get from JetBlue - perhaps in terms of voiding the NEA - without actually taking this to court where they would lose on its lack of merit and precedent, besides pi$$ing off stockholders of both companies.

We all know how it went... he asked a question I answered regardless of what was gained and not gained.
