And everyone says the legacy carriers are mismanaged...

JetBlue has the right idea. If they want their current flight attendents to learn spanish, the best way to do that is to send them to a foreign country for a several weeks. That is the best way to learn a foreign language. I bet JetBlue expects the flight attendents to pick up spanish in a few days. THAT WON'T WORK! You need atleast 3+ or so weeks to pick up some.

How much does it cost to pay a flight attendent for 3+ weeks, and provide a hotel for them in Spain??

How about hiring flight attendents that speak spanish??? United went to hire 2,000 flight attendents, and they got 7,500 apps in just 3 days. And 50% were bilingual! Maybe because everyone wants to work at a carrier like United rather than JetBlue... (Nevermind, I will stop bringing that up).

I hope that JetBlue does not throw away money on this project. Just hire bilingual flight attendents if that is what you want.

JB isn't looking for bilingual FAs, IMO.
Maybe this is one of those money-wasting, feel-good, projects.
Maybe something else. JB people haven't been told anything about this, except that it was being done.
Unusual for JB.

ok, I get it.
A little strange, but kinda cool if you are a flight attendant.

Didn't they send FA that already speak spanish? That kill the "lets learn spanish" reason.

It sounds like a great boondogle for some senior FA to get a 3-4 week trip to Europe, pay, hotel, perdiem. I'm sure you have to know some, who knows some one to get to go.

Has anyone seen any of these gals an a JB plane yet? Good/Bad?

Just my opinion....

OK, that is amazing, I don't care who ya are!

But OK, we're being serious now. I guess I may know a tiny bit more than most about this program, just from talking to one of the FAs who's over in Barcelona doing it now.

As I understand it, the Spanish speaking inflight were informed about it as a contest of sorts. They were asked to write an essay (I forget about what. The JB Experience maybe), and the top 30 were chosen.

I didn't think too hard about what the point was -- just saw it as a Good Deal kind of thing. Like sending folks to Toulouse. Plus I'm all for any type of cross-cultural exchange as a rule. But now that I look closer, maybe there is a deeper point to developing a relationship with these guys and cross-pollinating our in flight product. And I like what that implies for our future...
