Default Interview 01/12 -Class date 04/12

To all guys waiting in Phase II.

Last week I got the call for a Class Date on April 12.
I interviewed January 12, got the Phase I email on January 19.

So I was in week 10, of the 8-12 week background check estimated.
Right on jetBlue!

By the way, none of my reference persons were called, my chief pilot was completely surprised/clueless and only two out of the four previous airlines I worked for had send me the copy of my training records. Plus FAA.

Just when I started to get a little nervous the call came…
So, just hang in there guys and I see you all in Orlando.

I too will be in the Apr 12th class for the Airbus. My situation was a bit different than most though. I interviewed way back in Oct of 2005. My offer came in Jan 2006 for a class as early as Feb but due to my not being furloughed yet at NWA, I couln't take the gig until now.

Congrats to both of you!

Is anyone aware of a 2 year training contract at JetBlue?

Yes, I read the contract yesterday. The training contract was in regards to the noncompete agreement which stated that if you returned to your previous Part 121 carrier as a result of a recall and have not completed two years of employment starting from the line check after IOE, you would owe them the full cost of training, administration and any legal fees associated with your employment with JetBlue. It didn't specify an amount.

Not picking on JetBlue. But if management thinks it is such a great airline why do they need this? Never sign one of those.

If they furlough you before you've worked there two years do you get severance pay equal to the time from line check to the second aniversary? Probably not.

Actually the contract says they have to keep paying you for the 5-year duration even if they furlough you. Beats 6-months without health insurance, doesn't it?

Do you guys have a Legally binding contract?
Negotiated by who? More importantly Administered by who?

Be careful of your assumptions.

Before the FedEx pilots' unionized, we had something similiar to you, the FCH (Flight Crew Handbook).

It had all the appearances of a Pilot Contract.......but it was in a 3 ring binder. When MGT wanted to change something, you could hear the 3 rings snap and VoiLa.....a new page with changes was inserted.

Funny thing though, the changes were never for the better as far as the Pilots were concerned?

Wonder why we voted in a Union?

If that is the case then not bad. So if things get bad enough at JetBlue that they start furloughing your postive they will live up to this clause.

Correct, you do get paid for the remainder of your 5 year contract if your are furloughed. You do not get paid if you are terminated for what is described as gross misconduct or neglect. Of course, that is open to a multitude of interpretation in a court of law but management at JB is unlike that of legacy carriers (in my opinion so far).

The management/labor relationship at JB is far less contentious. At this point in my JB career, I am honoring my contract. The contract isn't like old FedEx either, where parts could be pulled at random from a 3 ring binder at will. Each one is individually written for each pilot (although they are identical) and any changes are done though a commitee represented by line pilots and voted on. To date, no portion of my contract has been altered.

Depending on where you live, the laws regarding enforcability of non-compete clauses vary widely and have a long history of being in favor of the employee especially in Right to Work states (there are 22 of them). At least according to my lawyer. I have been told that we have lost 36 pilots to recall's and other carriers this year. To my knowledge, JB has not pursued any of them for a training note if they left within their 2 year non-compete agreement.

So, until such time JB management willfully violates my trust and respect, I am giving them my 100% effort.
