Believe me, that is low on their list but a valid question. jetBlue is strictly used more in a marketing sense, you would want JetBlue on your résumé.

Don't forget it's JetBlue Airways

The rumor that B6 doesn't like Captains and some have to much time is not true. The current class is comprised of almost all Captains from regional carriers, many with 7,000+ hours. The one thing most have in common is multiple jobs fair attendances and 3-4 app windows.

Please don't kill a good conspiracy theory. :)

It's not an interview. No one is going to ask you to tell them about a time you did anything. You'll be in an audience with 100 other job-seekers learning about the company and the industry most of the time. You'll get a few minutes of face time with a pilot from their hiring committee and/or someone from HR who makes hiring decisions. They will not ask you interview questions.

Any current JB pilots can comment on projected Upgrade Time Averages for newhires? I know under APC it says most junior JB Captain was about a three year upgrade, what's the trend with the current hiring and growth projetions?

Thanks!

I'll take a WAG and say 4yrs for JFK/BOS 190 CA and 5 years for JFK 320 CA.

We will probably have a contract in the next several years, which will cause many senior FOs to jump for the upgrade due to better pay rates and work rules. Right now the junior CA spots run around 72-75% down the seniority list, which is abnormally low in my opinion. In the future we won't have so many FOs who bypass the upgrade in order to maintain a decent schedule.

if you were hired 2.5-3 years ago, you're holding the left seat. 320 has gone jr. to the 190. This may continue, but it's not expected to last. If you're hired tomorrow, you'll have a seniority #of about 3200. I think the jr. ca was 2385. that was past 72%. not normal. being jr. here stinks. hired today I'd say conservatively, 3-5yrs. probably more like 5-8. When we sign our first cba, things may change and i'd expect a lot of the bypass guys to jump left. so longer. this will increase upgrade exponetially. the jr capt. will be jr for a long time, we are a young group (think 35-45ish jr capts) and we have very few forced retirements.

90ish planes coming in the next 6 years. so there's lots of room for motion.

Good point about the size of the pilot group too. A newhire at #3200 would need 1600 pilots junior to him/her for a total pilot group of over 4800 pilots in order to reach 66% seniority (still optimistic for junior CA spot). Assuming a pilot net growth of ~250/yr, it would take 6yrs+ to hit this projection.
