closes 15-min early?

JBU closes flights 15 min early?
I showed at the gate with 13 min left and flight was closed and leaving with 2 jump seats open.
Gate agent said flight was closed and their policy is 15 min.
Lie?

Xtreme87 11-20-2016 08:19 AM

Yup, our wonderful new on-time policy.

Tom a Hawk 11-20-2016 08:20 AM

Truth. Unfortunately this is how they're combatting bad ontime performance. They want the CABIN door closed at 15 but we can't push until 10..... try to get flight crew attention, most will make sure you get on at that time.

Mr Rumbold 11-20-2016 08:39 AM

Thx!
I tried but jet bridge was blocking the view. :/
Thx for the info!

atrdriver 11-20-2016 08:56 AM

Actually, the policy is that jumpseaters can walk up and list/check-in up to 10 minutes prior to departure.

Please notify your jumpseat committee that JB gate agents are violating this policy. This needs to end.

coopervane 11-20-2016 09:37 AM

Also, we should ALL Be making the walk up to the gate to make sure no one is left behind.

Here ya go.

I know guys who check for jumpseaters but most aren't going up at 13 mins to go. At that point aren't we trying to minimize interruptions in an effort to increase safety?

Just to be clear, are you saying walking up the jet bridge 13 prior to push for maybe 60 seconds total compromises safety? If everything is done minus plugging in bags and pax, which conceivably any FO should be able to do, how is taking the walk detrimental to the effort to "increase safety"?? Should I not get up out of my seat 10-15 prior to take a leak, which is my normal routine, so that I'm more safe? Because me taking a leak and me walking to the top of the jet bridge takes about the same amount of time. Checking for jumpseaters doesn't mean rushing and/or missing checklist items. It is possible to both be safe and not leave your commuting brothers behind in this high company pressure environment.

Fair enough. Certain interruptions are acceptable.

It's not an interruption if you choose to go make the walk. The interruptions they're trying to avoid are the ones where you're in the middle of DIAFRIPS or the departure briefing they'd like to stop.

DIA....fookthewhat?

That's why they get paid the big bucks at mainline. I'm still waiting for that flowthrough!

This needs to be done every time!

jgdeleon09 04-08-2017 03:24 PM

2nd time I tried to js on you guys today out of DCA to MCO and showed up to the gate 17 mins prior to departure and both times the flights were closed 20 mins early. A lead agent told me that they can close it 20 mins early, how true is that?

Very true if everyone is checked in and on board.

hilltopflyer 04-08-2017 07:39 PM

It sucks, I hate it but they do.

Temocil27 04-09-2017 12:07 AM

Were you pre listed online and checked in as an OAL jumpseater?

Please make sure you report it to your jumpseat committee. Unfortunately the gate agents do not care. They really don't. Someone posted a link earlier in this thread to the thread I started. I was left at the gate more than 20 minutes out with my wife and 8 month old son. If they treat their fellow employees like this how do you think they feel about you?

CaptCoolHand 04-09-2017 05:51 AM

I've made a habit out of trying to preflight the js as frequently as I can. Nothing worse than missing your ride home because of early departures. This new on time push has got the agents really wound up to go early.

Hard for the gate to close out early if you're standing at the podium I've had much better luck sending emails or calling ops when it's tight. I know that's just about impossible for offline. The struggle is real. #commutingsucks

I will make it happen today, thanks.
