The excess sick leave is not completely lost. Any excess sick leave that is not used and exceeds the max carry over limit gets put in a disability bank to be used in the event you become disabled.

Good intel. Thanks. Had to look it up cause I’ve never heard this before.

Wonder how it will actually work. I have heard more than one person say they are putting people on short term disability after 3 days of sick time.

That would be completely inaccurate unless that person has no sick time or opted not to use it. You decide when you go on STD. You can use sick and vacation, then even go without pay for a month to keep your benefits until the end of that month. Once you go on STD they will pay your Cobra for 3 months. That is a huge issue I had with Jim Kilgore. The company used to pay Cobra for 6 months. Without warning or discussion they just one day dropped it to 3 months. My complaint fell on deaf ears.

Maxjet is 100% correct. You decide when or if to get a STD. Plan wisely.

Its only partly correct.
Only the employee can decide if they want to use the short term Disability. However, the company has the right to put you on a medical leave of absence when ever they want. If the employee tells the company they will be out for a while, and the employee has a full sick bank, the company WILL put you on a medical leave of absence; which starts the 90 day clock, after which the employee will have to fund their own health insurance. i.e. cobra.

There is more language in our current CBA about the companies rights to put an employee on a leave of absence than just about anything else.

Even if you have a full sick bank and want to exhaust that before you go on Short term(which you should be able to do, you earned it )The company can still put you on a medical leave which starts the 90 day clock.

My advice is to tell the company as little as possible about your health issues. Stretch out your sick leave as long as you can. Do it a few days at a time. DO NOT tell them you will be out for 3 months or longer.

My view of a sick day is; it is there for the employee to use for ill health with no loss of pay or other benefits. You should be able to exhaust that before the 90 day clock is started. MH thinks differently .

On a slightly different note.....

If you are out flying and get sick, do sick days start when you get home or as soon as you call in sick?

How does a sick day affect your pay?

It starts the day you call in. They deduct 1 day of sick leave and you still get min guarantee that month. If you already broke mins they still charge you a sick day and you get paid whatever you worked.

Thanks Forty5N.

This sounds much like the two stories I have heard from people who say they went through it. I obviously miss spoke about the short term. Didn’t completely grasp their situation.

Ground School Dress Code

Any Do's or Don'ts as far as dress for class?

Seems like a fairly relaxed office environment, but I imagine one could possibly be too casual or too 'business'.
