Kalitta ceasing ops?

A former flight engineer turned management pilot has been advising new hire pilots that Kalitta will be ceasing flight ops after the first of the year. The company's Oscoda operations will remain, he says. Anyone else been told this?

Must not be getting the Amazon contract.

A former FE turned Management, well that does not narrow the field.

Forty5N 12-23-2015 07:17 PM

OK,
Lets think about this.

How many former F/E's have become pilots and are in a management position?
B.A. ??? thats about it.

Hmmmmmmm

haha. a highly profitable cargo operator that makes more money than major pax airlines isn't going to shut down just because theyre in mediation.

This isn't evergreen where they owed everyone money and were in the red for years. K4 is making a lot of money and Connie has race teams to pay for. In some time K4 will be Evergreen, though. So yes, I see this happening in about 5-8 years.

Im scheduled for class after the first of the year... Hope this isn't true..

Perhaps Jan & Feb are slow cargo months and management can park planes during that time period and signal to pilots that if you want better pay we will be out of business. I believe in the FAR regs an air carrier can only be "dormant" for 60 or 90 days and then they must surrender their certificate to the FAA. So the parking may only last 60 or 90 days max.

Nothing is going to happen to this operation in the near future. The moron that posted this, is just that, a moron.

4 things just off the top of my head that go against the moron:

1. K4 has contracts with performance penalties attached. In simplistic terms, just like the lease on an apartment you just do not walk away from that.

2. Connie, besides what everyone says, does not own everything. He does yet own a number for the 400's. Yes, his name is on them as the owner but they are financed through another source. Newsflash, nobody wants old BCF's anymore no matter how well they have been maintained. The zero fuel weight is lower and the fuel burn higher. Selling them quickly is out of the question.

3. If we do park airplanes after the first of the year, it will be due to crew shortages, not lack of business, or Connie cutting off his nose to spite his face.

4. No airline, no race teams.

Poster above who is in the next class. If you do not have another job that pays this well then come here and after you get online put out your resumes if we still do not have a contract. Do not worry about a furlough. Very strong rumor, much much more reliable than the moron above is that we are losing 30 more pilots to our nearest competitor in the first quarter of 2016.

Sadly, in my inexpert opinion, We have been offered, and probably can get, a CMI contract with an Asian carrier. If we got that contract, Connie would make enough risk free money to settle an industry leading contract AND fund an additional race team. Unfortunately, no contract, no applications. They just don't seem to get it up there in YIP.

Jan is supposed to be busy according to scheduling. Nobody's parking anything. If this is Mgmt's attempt to instill fear they will fail miserably. K4 is turning away or subcontracting business because they can't staff airplanes. They cannot accept the fact that people aren't lining up to work there anymore.
