Let's talk movies

I'm a big movie buff...wanna hear of some good ones...what's everyone's favorite flight movie? Or any type of movie...whatever interests you:)

POPA 07-02-2007 05:01 PM

Bought My Cousin Vinny yesterday.
Patton was on AMC a few months ago.
Both are freakin' sweet.

Cubdriver 07-02-2007 05:22 PM

Some hollywood aviation movies I liked were Jetpilot with John Wayne (keep your tongue in your cheek), Executive Decision with Kurt Russell, 12 O'Clock High with Gregory Peck, Dr. Strangelove with Slim Pickens, Airplane! with Leslie Nielsen, Flightplan with Jodie Foster, Memphis Belle with Mathew Modine, Top Gun with Tom Cruise, The Right Stuff with Sam Shepard, and Aviator with Leonardo DeCaprio. Aviation is a great element to weave into movies; many of the great aviation scenes are found in non-aviation movies.

Puckhead 07-02-2007 06:05 PM

I really love Greenstreet Hooligans, Boondock Saints, Young Frankenstein I thinks hillarious also Shaun of the Dead

EvilGN 07-02-2007 06:51 PM

Favorite-Fight Club
Good flying movie- (sort of) -Pushing Tin

PLTwnab 07-03-2007 10:37 AM

Fight club was definitely a great movie...

Die Hard 2 was a pretty good flight movie...can't wait to see the 4th....and I thought I was gonna hate the Die Hard movies...now they're up there with my favorites...

I love Star Wars too, so if u don't, then don't trust my opinions, but I was reluctant to try them because Star Trek was a little too boring for me and I was afraid Star Wars would be the same, but they are sooo different..

If you agree with me so far, though, here's some other great ones: The Great Escape, Most Alford Hitchcock movies, Indiana Jones, The Princess Bride...

So not all flight movies, but those are my favorites to watch

Has anyone seen Red Eye? I was wondering if that one's any good...

the King 07-03-2007 02:23 PM

Red Eye is pretty good. Quite a few twists and turns to keep you interested. This summer is looking good. Bourne Ultimatum is one I'm looking forward to.

Cubdriver: Seriously, Executive Decision? I had a real problem with that one. The gear warning horn goes off for like 5 minutes before Kurt Russell realizes it. It annoyed me. That and the "Stealth" 117 that held the team.

blastboy 07-03-2007 02:50 PM

Miami Vice. The movie and the series. :D

For flying movies I'll second "The Aviator", add Hugh's "Hell's Angels", "The Battle of Britain", "Only Angels Have Wings" (it's all toy airplanes, but a great, corney movie), "The Flight of the Phoenix" (the original, with Jimmy Stewart), "Flight From Glory" and "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines".

Others seen recently and enjoyed:

"The Burmese Harp"
"Army of Shadows"
"Shattered Glass"

and a few thousand others...:)

PLTwnab 07-04-2007 11:09 AM

Is the flight of the Phoenix the one where his plane gets stuck in the desert? If it is, I only meant to watch a little bit of that one b/c I didn't feel like watching TV at the time, but I ended up getting sucked into it until it ended...

I'll agree on that one, but I don't think the Aviator was all that it was cracked up to be...I guess it was a little too long with not enough action scenes...:o

No, not that seriously. Hollywood is never to be taken seriously IMHO. But if you down an entire bottle of wine after a week of work it is ok.

Some time ago I bought a high-definition dvd projector. Movies are really nice in projection, it makes everything huge. "One Six Right; The Joy of Flying" is a great high-def piece. Other titles I like are by Werner Herzog, but taken as art rather than entertainment. Werner Herzog is a genious. Find a copy of "Little Dieter Needs to Fly" or "Fata Morgana" if you want something a little deep.

the King 07-04-2007 08:41 PM

I went and saw Transformers and loved it. Do your homework before you go, and just know going in that its a action movie.

Yep, that was "Phoenix". It's one of those movies that, if I'm flipping through channels looking for something, and it's on, I almost always watch it.

Just watched my Father's Day gift, "The Last King of Scotland", last night. Great movie, but a couple of VERY gruesome scenes in it.

JMT21 07-05-2007 08:31 PM

Thank-you for Smoking is a must see.

I have to say, the funniest movie I can think of is Blades of Glory...I was cracking up in the theater:D

Puckhead 07-10-2007 08:30 PM

Just saw Transformers today and id have to say that movie was EPIC. I reccomend it to everyone who hasnt seen it yet....and heck to those that have.

the King 07-10-2007 08:36 PM

Seconded...the movie was awesome especially considering I grew up with the things.

fedupbusdriver 07-12-2007 03:01 PM

Pulp Fiction is a classic!!!

vagabond 07-15-2007 07:34 AM

Rented "The Shooter" last night. Mark Wahlberg is kinda sexy. ;) Wonder how real the shooting scenes are. An old friend was a Green Beret in Vietnam, and he thought it was a sissy movie.

LAfrequentflyer 07-16-2007 11:11 AM

I saw Rescue Dawn this weekend and thought it was excellent.

Wow I totally saw that today...Best movie I've seen in a long time...when I left I thought all the sports cars in the movie theater parking lot were going to stand up and start walking...

It would also be nice if I could just say that my car looked like crap and it automatically turn into a corvette...anyone that can make that happen please feel free to jump in any time and volunteer b/c my car doesn't listen to me:(

Puckhead 07-17-2007 08:24 PM

Dont feel too bad my car just likes to do the opposite of the transformers cars and just get crappier as time goes on.....

DON*T HATE ERAU 07-18-2007 08:54 AM

Finding NEMO :) ..... Wedding Crashers, Old School, Office Space, Happy Gilmore, the Matrix Trilogy, Rush Hour 1 and 2, Tuskegee Airmen for sure, Behind Enemy Lines, Gone in 60 Secs, TRANSFORMERS!!! I could go on and on.

Best list I've seen for a while. You must be in your 40s. If not, even more kudos.

I'd add:
The Deer Hunter
The Godfather
Goodfellas

Here is a list I pretty much agree with.

I question your claim of being a "movie buff" if you think Smokin' Aces was a great movie.

AggieFlyer06 07-19-2007 12:42 PM

A few ppl have named Shooter so far, so I went out n got it from Blockbuster...I watched it twice in one day...I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite movie for the time being...and I also agree that Mark Wahlberg is a hottie;)

PLTwnab 07-20-2007 10:48 PM

Also went and saw "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" today...I thought it was funny but it def coulda been better...it was just missing something but I can't pinpoint what it is...

AggieFlyer06 07-26-2007 05:09 AM

i havent seen that one yet. i will prob end up waiting until my girlfriend makes me take her. haha. on a side note, what are your thoughts on DeJaVu with denzel?

I'm curious about Deja Vu too. My g'friend and I have watched the preview on Pay Per View 3 or 4 times but can't quite bring ourselves to rent it. Anybody seen it? Any good?

35Whiskey 07-26-2007 11:27 AM

I've got to recommend the new "Casino Royale" too. Daniel Craig is a great Bond, and this one is much closer to the style and tone of the books than all the others. Great action flick.

LeoSV 07-26-2007 05:22 PM

If I had an airline, I would show a rotation of the movies Friday, Road Trip, Dazed and Confused, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, and the Band of Brothers series on my flights. And maybe throw Smokey and the Bandit in there every once in a while. :D
