I'm here
for the drama........
But seriously, I dread and enjoy reading this side of the site because obviously people are voluntarily or involuntarily getting put to the streets, but are finding something greater in life(and some can obviously make a living, and keep a hand in flying).
I would really enjoy seeing folks helping others out more than the blatent bickering over "My idea's right, yours is wrong, it'll never work, etc..." Each situation is individual as we are, so why not offer condolences and help in redirecting others towards a hopeful future?
No I'm not losing my job, nor do I feel I'll be in jeopardy in the near or distant future, but that doesn't really mean much either in retrospect. I feel this forum is a place to not only learn about what to do "if/when" it happens, but maybe to help predict the worst is coming.
So, not really looking for responses, but rather maybe some thoughtfulness in helping those folks that are unfortunately going through something we all fear, regardless if your 121/135/91 ops.
That is all, and good luck to those on the job hunt.

Phamasuitacal sales. Can be done with an aviation degree and a short sales training program. Easy six figures, from what I hear. There was a guy at JC who left this to get into the regional F/O biz. Got out soon after to get back into medical sales. He had his own turbo arrow.

Research this one carefully...I think there are easier ways to make $100K.
Also the law changed a couple years ago...the reps no longer have free latitude to take physicians out for lunch, dinner, or on vacation boondoogles. This means less fun and more old-fashioned shoe-leather sales work.
I agree that equipment sales is better, but I don't think just anyone can get into that...you either need an engineering or medical background...I know an ex-nurse who does that, a well as some ex-military guys.

As someone posted above there is a ton of driving (company car that pays for gas though), and a lot of computer "syncing" as she says..........

Lineman
I had a conversation with a city lineman the other day. He told me that there are a bunch of old timers who are due to retire nationwide and few young guys who are in the pipeline as apprentices. He went on to confirm my theory that all the trades and vocations are going to have shortages. Usually they pay well and offer solid benefits.

One of the reps was in the office the other day, and he told me he made $110,000 last year with bonuses. Says he'll do better this year, as we are prescribing more of their line of meds.
