Any civil engineers out there? Give it a try
Hi, I’m a recent graduate of a Civil Engineering degree. During my education, I worked in the engineering field for a couple years. I have noticed that both Civil Engineers and aviators (pilots) have a lot in common. Many of my Civil Engineering professors and classmates have piloted an aircraft as least a couple times. Several of them are recreational pilots (single engine). Here are a few reasons why I think the two careers are so similar: 1.) Our use of maps, elevations/altitudes, and direction. Pilots would probably make very good survey technicians. 2.) The use of fluid dynamics. 3.) Compliance with government guidelines and procedures. 4.) Involvement in the transportation field. 5) The use of the standard or English measurement system, like pilots we haven’t really caught onto the metric system. 6.) Liability of the public’s health and safety, particularly with structural engineering. 7.) Our strong work ethic and integrity. If you’re thinking about a career change consider the Civil Engineering field.
