Talking Any civil engineers out there? Give it a try

Hi, Iím a recent graduate of a Civil Engineering degree. During my education, I worked in the engineering field for a couple years. I have noticed that both Civil Engineers and aviators (pilots) have a lot in common. Many of my Civil Engineering professors and classmates have piloted an aircraft as least a couple times. Several of them are recreational pilots (single engine). Here are a few reasons why I think the two careers are so similar: 1.) Our use of maps, elevations/altitudes, and direction. Pilots would probably make very good survey technicians. 2.) The use of fluid dynamics. 3.) Compliance with government guidelines and procedures. 4.) Involvement in the transportation field. 5) The use of the standard or English measurement system, like pilots we havenít really caught onto the metric system. 6.) Liability of the publicís health and safety, particularly with structural engineering. 7.) Our strong work ethic and integrity. If youíre thinking about a career change consider the Civil Engineering field.

Written like a true Engineer.

While I was getting my PPL, I was working as a lift planner for a Crane Company in Vegas. I worked with several Structural and Civil Engineers. I also noticed the similarities in the fields. Being in the Crane business, I also found weight and balance equations to be easy.

Engineering is the first alternate career that rolls off my tongue when asked about college degree options.
