Default Think about it

I think that in the light of the recent furloughs at Eagle, and the demand from Pinnacle management that pilots take paycuts, that pilots may want to think about why they became pilots to begin with. I know that you didn't work as hard at becoming pilots just to remain as bottom feeders all of your careers.
I think that any pilot could see that things are getting worse out there, and that by now it is obvious that you have been taken advantage of. You agreed to work for less pay at the regionals, and now they are trying to get rid of you.
I have talked to many pilots out there that feel that this is a bad career to be in, and these are guys at the top looking back. A few pilots still feel that their lives will improve soon when the major airline finally hires them. Don't forget that you will be back at the bottom when the major hires you, and you may be furloughed again.
I have been told that my posts are too negative, and I do agree that I am certainly not being positive. I am also being realistic.

I think that your reply sounds like you are responding to my post positively. I am trying hard to ley people see how I feel on this subject without flamebating. I really do give aviation my very best, and I know that it is not all completely bad, but it is not good and getting worse every day. Those guys at the regionals basically paid for their jobs in one form or another. Now they are getting furloughed.
I don't think that leaving the US is any better at all. Airlines in Asia make it sound great, and they are just as bad.

Don't worry man, many of us feel the same way. Unfortunately there are still lots of idiots out there that will never believe you when you tell them the truth. By the time they realize it, they will be deep into the job with no plan b. The "man" knows this and will always be ahead of the game because of it. The best you can do is learn from your mistakes and keep pursing happiness even if it takes you outside of aviation.

What if you are like most pilots who are ONLY happy whey they are in the air flying their RJ?

Then what happens is what's been happening for years. "They" dangle the end-all-be-all in front of you (an RJ) and that will be considered the biggest contribution to your compensation and quality of life.

Let's just hope that it's enough...

I recommend getting out of aviation. I'm too old to start over. If you are 40 or younger, you need to seriously think about another line of work. This one is going to be bad for quite a while. It may never recover when you consider what you have to do to get the job. Bad return on your education dollar, that's for sure.

Having a 401K that you put every penny you can into every year certainly takes on new meaning as your only possible source of retirement income. No more traditional pension.

I addressed that. I do post things that are not positive, and I do continue to look for opportunities. I want improvement, and I want pilots to be aware that things are not getting better. I do plan to continue my persuit of flying, and I do communicate with pilots on issues that concern me. Please don't judge my posts.
