I was confused by the question did that lead to a degree. Heck, college was over 25 years ago. So I answered some questions that steered towards college courses and some (which I didn't check the "lead to a degree" box) by using work experience. I did NOT use all the allowable space like some had on the KSA's. I also changed my resume from a one page to four page and incorporated some of the KSA's answers into that. So I don't know if I get less points (also non veteran) for how I filled the application out.

I'm also willing to move anywhere although it pains me to relocate to say, GRR. I did hear a story recently of a newhire (general aviation) who didn't want to move to CMH and was able to stay in CLE. I certainly don't want to take the chance like the above poster and continue to wait for a position to open up where I want to go. This thread has been invaluable for information so thanks to all for keeping us informed. I will do the same if I hear anything.

Who knows? Friend applied shortly before me for ASI AC. He is ridiculously qualified. Hasn't heard a word. I applied, got called, did a good interview, and haven't heard anything since. Unfortunately, getting an offer and doing the check ride for a final offer before Sept 30 looks pretty unlikely for any of us at this point. Don't mean to be a downer - best of luck to all. I think the rumors on here that there were almost no applicants was greatly exaggerated.

I have to repeat, multiple times a day, while shaking my head, 'it is the government'. Nothing they do makes any sense, and it changes day-to-day. At this point, end of the fiscal year is looming, so I (personally) can't imagine any hiring until mid-October. I, of course, could be wrong.

Every branch within every department is very different. In my little corner of the big bad gov't world we are busy hiring and getting people on BEFORE the end of the fiscal year.

I will say that gov't HR hiring rules make little sense. Their timelines are not in line with anyone elses' and if you aren't prepared, or able, to move at their sometimes glacial pace, then you need to keep looking while waiting for the opportunity. If something else comes along while you are waiting and you'd rather take that job then you should jump on it IMO. If they then call and you are no longer available, and you would have been a great fit for the organization, then their system let them down. It is the system. Sometimes it works; sometimes it does not.

Agreed. Frustrating part is just no info I guess. I may be getting referred I guess but not chosen, or I may not have been referred at all. Phone could ring tomorrow, or never. Leaves you completely in the dark with the nationwide posting that doesn't update. If I didn't have a decent job I'd definitely just forget about it and move along but I guess I have the time to wait and hope it happens.

As it has been said before in this thread, patience is a virtue. I waited 5 years to get the call. That was 10yrs ago. There's much better odds for selection now due to attrition and retirements. If you want to be pro-active, start calling prospective FSDO's and CMO's. Express interest and ask about any opportunities. Sometimes the squeaky wheel does get the grease...

I do not recommend this.

You'll realize when you are here that it in fact does make sense, only in that they are trying to make everyone happy at once, which is an impossible goal. Lots of people and managers doing the best they can do every single day, but they'll never get "there" because they are constantly pulled in opposite directions. Gives you a good appreciation for what goes on in many other agencies and places.

Why do you suggest not moving anywhere to take the job? I understand you could be given several choices. You could always transfer later. Of course, they have to call me first!

Because there are some real real bad places. In most cases I would recommend it, but definitely not all.

To the guys that landed a job as an ASI in GA OPs: Just out of curiosity what kind of flight time and qualifications did you have when applying? I hear it ranges quite a bit but I have never really seen it get mentioned on here before. Thanks for the feedback in advance!
