That’s working half the month and home with the family the other half. Of course, you have to live in domicile to make the extra money. If I was single and wanted to chase the greenbacks as a 3rd year FO i could have easily made over 300k. So many opportunities at Southwest. I was hired in late 2015.

Its not a stretch for most majors, to say total earning in base vs commuting can exceed 7 figures over a career.

I’ve been lucky since the beginning of the year and scored some really good trips each month. I’ve also worked harder in 2019 trying to make some “real” money now that I’m on 2nd year pay, lol. If I keep up my current pace I’ll W2 180k on mostly 2nd year pay. Not bad. Something tells me I’ll value my time more than the money as the year moves on though :)

The bad thing about averaging a high credit each month is that becomes what the wife expects EVERY month, lol.

I would say that over a 20 year career living in domicile you can at least put a 2 and possibly a 3 in front of that 7 figures. As a 5 year FO by picking up a few extra days a month I will make what a commuting captain makes that just commutes in and flies his line. People don’t realize how much more you can make and such a better QOL it is living in base. Those 6-8 days that a commuter stresses going back and forth I can work 4 turns and make thousands more a month and be home by the afternoon with my family.

You are clearly in the 'flow' right now. :)....so a direct extrapolation is probably not entirely applicable.
But even so....living in a domicile makes a huge difference in qol and earnings over a career.

One advantage to living in base is picking up day trips or easy two days in neighboring domiciles i.e. PHX and LAS. You can get pretty creative from what I’ve seen.

If you're senior to me, please keep up with that line of thinking and remember, your manhood shrinks and shrivels even more each time you read the contract. ;)
