When my Wi-Fi feed screws up I can usually just reboot the router and everything is fine. The radar altimeter… not so much.

I think it's smart to NOTAM the approaches until we learn more, radar altimiters are tied to so many things it's not worth messing around with until we know exactly how well they play together.

And yeah, Morning Brew seems to do a decent job so far.

AT&T, Verizon decline to stop 5G rollout

The companies declined a request from the FAA and DOT to stop the 5G rollout saying it's already been thoroughly tested in other parts of the world.

Astounded. Didn't see that coming at all

Cat 1 everywhere. No problem. Get paid by the hour. Seems like a diversion in to a cancellation is a great way to be pay protected and have more time off. I will be much more proficient for recurrent. Lots of holding, missed approaches and diversions

Serious question. The FAA mandates and has control (relatively speaking) over building heights and obstructions near airports.

SDF is a great example. I guess it’s called “Kentucky Kingdom”, but I’m pretty sure it was a Six Flags back in the day.

Anyhow the amusement park is LAME AS HELL. There are No super tall roller coasters or rides because, wait for it, it’s right off the approach end of the 17s. There are legitimate restrictions from the feds as to heights and what they can build.

Like wtf? Does the stupid arse FCC seriously override the FAA on this? I don’t understand how the FAA doesn’t do what they do with obstacles regarding 5G. Like you can’t have full 5G XYZ from an airport etc. Tough $hit.

Just absolutely incredible to me. I can’t wait for some douche Cell phone CEO have to divert someday cuz they can’t get in CAT 2/3 somewhere.

”WHAT DO YOU MEAN WERE DIVERTING!?”

It's frankly far too complicated to model accurately. So they would have to maintain distance to limit power.

In this case the FAA cannot overcome the political will of all the people who want their 5G bandwidth.

It's likely they'll observe it carefully over time and gradually reduce limitations. Assuming no interference is observed. It's probably not going to be practical to limit all big airports to CAT I forever.

The science won't change, but they will acquire some real-world data.

Or the telecom industry will pay to upgrade our Radio Altimeters to make it all go away..."today's cat 3 approach is brought to you by Verizon" will be a new required PA

That's hilarious.

I was just driving home and the radio show Market Place ran a short story on this. They basically said that it's become a big 4 way ****ing match between the Airlines, Cell Phone companies, the FCC and the FAA. They did mention they 5G has rolled out pretty extensively around the world with no known problems
