They used the concorde to get concessions just like they used the 787. Probably took a pay cut, just for the promise of seeing a concorde. The only concorde I've seen is in the training department. It's about 8 feet long and is actually a boeing sst.

We ordered several and then the oil issue hit and the order went bye bye. But clearly at that time CAL was a company at the head of the game and had been for many decades.
Again, my point was to downplay a comment that CAL has only been a top carrier for the last 8-10 years and I disagreed with that. CAL was a great carrier before Lorenzo and went through 15 bad years before rebounding to become a good carrier once again.
Would you agree with that or do you disagree with that?
I didn't realise it was going to become a Concorde thread. Geez...

Also your right, in 1963 Continental placed an order for 3 Concordes.

The numbers I have are for what I would call the "good" airlines. These are the airlines that most people attempt to settle at for the duration of their career. Just because I did not list your airline (Alaska, Frontier, AirTran, Northwest,...) does not mean I do not think it is a "good" airline. It is just I don't have retirement numbers for them. Please contribute if you have them.
The airlines I have numbers for include American, United, Delta, Continental, US Air (East and West), Southwest, FedEx, and UPS. These airlines make up approximately 47,000 of the roughly 80,000 airline pilots in the United States (majors and regionals).
From 2007 until 2011, the number of retirements due to age 60 is very steady at approximately 1,500 pilots per year.
From 2012 until 2017, the number of pilots due to retire increases at a rate of over 100 per year until 2017 when 2,400 pilots are due to retire.
These numbers are all very dependent upon the age 60 rule staying the way it is!! You can see how changing age 60 could increase the supply of pilots by about 8,000 over just a 5 year period. So long to any potential pilot shortage should the age 60 rule change!

FWIW my friend at CAL has been there about 15 years and has very few bad things to say about it, from pay to aircraft to QOL to employees. I also used to know one of the EWR CP's and he made it seem like they had things squared away.

Thanks for the info aero!
There are lots of dynamics in the outlook of airlines but this is a component.
Thanks again.
Any info specific to individual airlines?
