FAA attacks Points Guy for blaming delays on:

flight delays are most often because of weather. |

well they already do that but also: why is civilian traffic more important than military airspace use?

because you totally shut down airports for no reason when there are thunderstorms dozens of miles from the actual airport, don't allow aircraft to takeoff towards airports that are shutdown due to weather even though the aircraft wont be there for hours, are completely unable to come up with new routes that simply go around the storm because it doesn't go through the arrival corridor, and when you do come up with a new route it takes you a hundred miles out of the way for no reason, or even better it took you so long to come up with a new route by the time you start giving it to people the weather moved to exactly where the new route is, or departure/approach is so overwhelmed with weather deviations they limit the amount of arrivals and departures so perhaps having better staffing would solve that problem so the tracons aren't so overloaded, and maybe if the weather is so bad we limit military airspace so more airspace is available to avoid weather

They limit military airspace all the time when needed due to weather issues.

Because the military is just burning tax payer dollars flying in circles out there in the practice area and during a weather event they can probably pause for half a day. |
Not to sound like a Richard, but my own personal belief is the regionals have a hand to play in this too. They have increased congestion by the numbers of flights in and out of some of the busiest airspace in the country. That’s not a swipe at the pilots, they are just doing the best job when they can. But how much of the lift for the mainline is regional flying? And what busy airspace are they flying in? Not saying it’s the biggest reason for delays, but they certainly add to the saturation. I suspect due to the shortage of pilots at the regionals is probably helping to alleviate this, but in terms of airspace efficiency (passengers on a plane per unit airspace) it’s not great. Just my $.02 of course.
