IAH Marriott and LaQuinta have both been letting trainees keep their points.

That's how it should be. Your normal business traveler gets frequent flyer points, rental car rewards and hotel points for every trip they go on and they don't even pay for anything, their company does.

As for pay, during training you are paid based off of a 72 hour month. So your daily pay while in training is 2 hours and change per day. You also get $44ish bucks per day in perdiem ($1.85 per hour x 24 hours). In addition CAL pays your hotel for the full duration of training.

wow, so after all that perdiem new hires get paid more while in training than after?!

Another CAL ?

I start @ CAL on 22 Jan ... if anyone knows: do you share a hotel room while in training? ... how about once on the line? ... once done at IAH with in-doc & sims, what is you pay & work schedule at domicile until your line check is complete?? Thanks.

Out of curiosity, anyone know the monthly cost for Delta's health insurance for a family of 4?

Around $230 with their "new" HRA account based plan. If you want the Delta Pilot's plan it is the most expensive around $450-500/month. I think they're trying to get people away from that plan...

You always get your own room in training or online. The Marriott is nice, you can bring a laptop and they'll give you (CAL) free internet. Good fitness room. Expensive gift shop. Food is a little expensive, but I go to the airport and eat most of the time. The Marriott is between terminals C & B, so you have lots of choices. Ask for a mini 'fridge. They have them. Pay during IOE should be the value of the training day or the value of the trip, which ever is greater. I'm not sure and I can't look it up now. You won't get paid less. Training scheduling will arrange your IOE a few days after sim training. They like you to do your first trip from IAH with a sim instructor, but that doesn't always happen. You could be sent to any base for IOE. I did mine in CLE as a EWR pilot. It doesn't matter, but it's nice to do it in your own base, since that is what you need to learn.

Good luck, see you on the line.

No crew should ever have to share a room.... ever. The pay is ridiculous at CAL for year one. Making crews share a room would be out of the question for me.

JB, love the Old Style pic!

Otto, are you done with upgrade training yet?

Ottopilot 01-09-2008 07:28 AM

Tonight at 8:30pm I'm done. :D

Incorrect. I just spent several minutes arguing with Marriott on the phone yesterday regarding this very topic. I was a Platinum member already before my CAL training. I received ZERO points and ZERO nights credited for my training in November 2007. The only good thing was access to the concierge lounge and the free breakfasts. Other than that... too bad for me.
