I used to. But now there's no way I would do that to my passengers or colleagues. We make enough to shell out $130 on a hotel for early sign-ins.

Who's leaving before midnight? Not me. 0130 at the worst. Simple solution - told my wife if I couldn't handle it I'd transfer to a local base. It was okay. Not great but okay. Actually used to bid the early departures when I didn't have to.

Guys who lived closer used to say "I don't know how you do it." Then they'd fall asleep during the flight. From my perspective they had the problems which made their perspective of me understandable.
