ODDBALL ROUTES

Oddball Routes (past and present)

_____________________________________

HNL-MCO United

SCL-SYD QANTAS (kind of cool as it flies near Antarctica)

SAL-MSY Spirit

DXB-FLL Emirates (Covid killed this one, thought it was interesting because I believe Emirates served Miami as well)

ACY-CUN Spirit

NRT-UBN United (kinda really rooting for this one I think that’s should be such a cool place to visit)

what others can you think of?

United does MCO-HNL nonstop?

Hawaiian did that for a minute, they also did HNL-AUS

HNL-BOS was a cool one too, longest domestic US route ever

I remember a few years ago I was sitting around in Orlando waiting for my next flight. I look up at the flight board and I show United departure for Honolulu. Not sure if they still have that.

that is pretty accurate. I would also add breeze to that list.

I believe Breeze does SFO to Asheville.

makes me wonder what the longest domestic US route possible is?

STX to LIH? That would be funny.

Ice Bear 05-04-2026 09:55 AM

Within the 50 states, probably the Florida Keys to the Aleutians. Around 4700 nm. Otherwise, STX-GUM is a little over 8200 nm.

DTW - FNT…

AllYourBaseAreB 05-04-2026 12:50 PM

PHL-ABE. Replaced by a bus

DeltaboundRedux 05-04-2026 12:56 PM

Earth - Moon - Earth

But you don't actually land ON the moon.

Really more of the ultimate "gate return."

Earth-Earth.

I did PHL-AVP once, in a jet. Naturally both of us had been sent out from PHX on reserve and had never operated on the east coast. And they gave us a convoluted route of multiple radials and victor airways

Flight took about seven minutes, then we had a 20 hour layover.

Earth - Moon - Earth with diversion.

hoover 05-05-2026 07:21 AM

I did POS-TAB a lot. I think it was 11 min. Flight level is 3000' so...

word302 05-05-2026 07:29 AM

They used to do ONT-LAX in the Bro at OO. I never got to do it but I bet it was fun.

Flyby1206 05-05-2026 07:31 AM

During Covid JB had some tag flights to comply with the CARES Act:

at6d 05-05-2026 08:29 AM

After a diversion for a power outage, we did BUR-LAX at WN. That was probably the shortest revenue flight I did. Basically took off and entered right base for 24R.

I did SNA to LGB
Didn't even bring the gear up

We brief that. In case we're on fire.

Presumably that was some kind of milk run thing? You could ride a bike in less time than taking that flight.

At the time Emirates didn't go to Miami. It was definitely weird they chose FLL, sad they didn't stick with it

Diverted to SNA because of wx then when cleared took those left to LGB

YAKflyer 05-05-2026 12:31 PM

OK I'm a really old guy.....but back in the late 80's or early 90's Delta used to fly a scheduled MIA-FLL which I flew it several ties on a 727.

IAD -BWI-IAD 4x daily super dooper Jetstream 3200

Turbosina 05-05-2026 02:46 PM

SFO-STS. 51 nm distance.. My record was 13 minutes from start of takeoff roll to blocking in. Did this probably hundreds of times over the years.

Did that in a CRJ-200, along with DTW-LAN and DTW-TOL.

worstpilotever 05-05-2026 05:12 PM

WRI-JFK in a 747-400.

Halon1211 05-05-2026 07:02 PM

When I was a child my first flight on a 777 wasn’t even an hour long. It was GRU to GIG on American.

Because I guess American would fly a “tag” or Round robin route from MIA to those cities back in the day.

Did Dtw Fnt as a standup with just under 8 hrs rest. If you could block early and get the rest period over 8 it became a 2 day trip paying 2 min days instead duty rig. Needless to say, we hurried.

dera 05-06-2026 04:17 PM

MIA-FLL on 747 is fun.

Now that's 4D chess right there! Nice 😎

I did nothing but standups for almost a decade. Would fly 300 block and credit 1000 ☺️

BurritoBeach 05-06-2026 08:01 PM

At Horizon we used to do Pullman, WA to Lewiston, ID. 22 miles straight line and usually planned under 10 minutes. I only got to fly it once, but it was pretty cool. Busy, though.

At Eagle I felt like I flew 1000 and credited 300! And standups for a decade? Gross! I’d rather do DFW-SPS for a decade. Wait, I think I did.

There is a giant difference between good (low block/long rest) standups and bad ones.

word302 05-07-2026 08:38 AM

PSG to WRG in a 737 is pretty amazing. 27nm. I only got to do it once but it was 30 minutes gate to gate.

The ones we had BOS-BGR were pretty great. Just under 8hrs rest but the hotel was attached to the terminal

Yeah we did PDX-BOI with almost 9 hours behind the door.

EGEW-EGEP.

hoover 05-07-2026 06:30 PM

I ferries a 737 sfo-sjc I think paperwork said 11 min enroute and we were at about an hr because of all the vectors.

HVYMETALDRVR 05-07-2026 11:45 PM

KORD to KRFD on an MD11.

symbian simian 05-08-2026 08:42 AM

Did 91k. Shortest revenue flight was TEB-MMU, 17NM. Taxi time in TEB was probably the same as the drive would have been. Did lots of repo flights between Metro airports like IAH-SGR, DAL-DFW, ORL-MCO, HPN-JFK, because rich people don't want to drive for an extra 5 minutes. Shortest one was LGA04-TEB24. Hobbs was WOW and didn't click over. Company added 0.2 for taxi time. Block 0.2, Flight 0.0.

Looong time ago sat on the JS on a RTM-AMS, 24NM straight out RW06, straight in RW06, repo flight on a 737, in the middle of the night. Captain didn't believe in 250 below 10, so got to over 300kts at 2000ft. Didn't take very long.
