Another United Hiring Question
The other United hiring threads are getting pretty long, so I thought I would start another one. I got the e-mail to schedule the lasergrade test yesterday. Am I correct in understanding that this is another psyc. test? And if so, is it another test on the computer, or is it an actual person sitting in front of you asking you if you do strange things to your dog with a fork?? I guess my real question is, is it on the computer or in person?
|
Lasergrade is a computer testing facility..so i can only assume that this will be a computer test.

Yeah folks, It's just another psyc test on the computer. No tech questions at all. It's very similar to the first one you did. You can't study for it. It's not a threat. Cheers |

Cheers That's right - just parts 2 & 3 of the Hogan Assements that you have already successfuly completed online. You should hear within 3-4 days. I was asked to interview 3 days after the assesment. Good Luck to you! :D |
I submitted the app on Aug 14 and have still not received the link to the online psych test. (I meet the mins) Anyone else have this long of a wait, or any advice? Thanks

I guess what I'm asking is if the first pysch test is automatically sent to everyone qualified who applies
|
No, I don't think you will with what I have seen on other threads and forums.
|
I just did the second psyc. test on wednesday. I just got an e-mail from HR this morning saying that they are evaluating my qualifications and if we can offer you any encouragement that they will contact you about the next steps in the process. Has anyone else got this e-mail? It doesnt say "sorry, there are more qualified applicants" or anything like that. I dont want to read anything into it. Has anyone else got this e-mail and still got a call for an interview?

for those of you that have got the call for the interview, could you shed some light on this? Did you get an e-mail before the call? And if I remember right, on one of the other posts, someone said that the "rejection" e-mail was very specific. Should I still hold out some hope?

throttlejockey -Not to worry! I recieved the same e-mail and was invited to set up a interview via phone a couple of days later. (Like you I figured I was done when I saw the e-mail) Hang in there you should hear very soon.:) |
TJ, I didn't get this one after the Lasergrade stuff but I did earlier in the process. I think it is a standard wait email letting you know that United has your latest stuff but isn't ready to move yet. Good luck.
|
Thanks fat daddy. It is just so easy to read whatever you want or dont want into something so vague. Good to know that they dont think that I am a complete nut case. By the way have you interviewed yet, and if so how did it go. As many details would be nice. (I've heard about the confedentiality thing.)
|
Yep, interviewed and got the offer. If they invite you there to talk, they want you but need to make sure that you are what you say you are. Be yourself, they will constantly remind you to relax, breathe, etc. (of course, maybe it was because of me). It wasn't hard or confrontational whatsoever.
Have some stories, know your basics, and have fun. I wish I would have soaked it in a little more but driving home that night from the airport gave me time to reflect at least. |

Took me a week. Flew out in the morning and back in the evening...no hotel. For me, I got more sleep that way, felt more comfortable.
What would you do between United and Delta? Hope to be in the same situation soon. |

What would you do between United and Delta? Hope to be in the same situation soon. I just got a phone call yesterday from Continental for an invite to an interview. It sure lifted my spirits because I got that crazy email from Delta regarding "unresoved issues regarding my psychological testing." It sure took the wind out of my sails. Yesterday, I was all "woe is me with ashes and sackcloth." However, it is out of my hands and I hope my interview and testing performance in conjunction with a virtual spot free flying and military history will override that blasted MMPI and 15 minute interview with the shrink. From folks I talked to, the chances are pretty good that I'll get hired. However, I'm hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. Just remember, a conditional hire means exactly that...a conditional hire. I guess I'm not too crazy to fly C-17s all around the world.. |
Hell, I don't blame you on the C-17 thing. I fly Gulfstreams all around the world and end up in the same garden spots you do somehow.
I'm counting on the whole military and spot free thing also. Hope to hear from the other companies also just in case since it is the conditional offer. Good luck on your interview. |
Can I expect only a one on one (or two on one) interview for United on the day they call you for the interview?? Fly into ORD the morning of the 18th, they said it would take 4-5 hours....then flying home.

10/15 10/29 Beyond that, not sure. |
Are there classes going on right now? Does anyone know what A/C they are going to and which bases. I hear that Denver is pretty senior. Any idea how long it would take to get DEN?
|
I know the class dates. I was just wondering who is in what class!
|
I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, but I did a search for it and didn't find the answer.
Health Care costs? How much does it cost? I heard there is no out of pocket cost, even to the new hire. Is that true? Thanks. |

I'm in the 9/24 class. So far I've only tracked down one other person in my class. Either these people don't read Flight Info and APC or they are lying low till class. 9/24 is the first class of new hires. 20 slots...10 Airbus and 10 Guppy...all to DCA is what I was told by the New Hire Project Manager. What kind of benefits does United provide beyond a paycheck like, 401k, profit sharing, success sharing? United provides full medical, dental, and life insurance for you, your spouse/domestic partner, and dependents. New employees, depending upon where you live, may have several medical and dental options to choose from. Some options incur a monthly charge. In addition, United will contribute 15% of your salary to a 401k program that you manage. You may elect to contribute more to your 401k program if you choose, but this does not change the company contribution. This implies that it is covered by the company...but I find that hard to believe. I guess the "some options incur a monthly charge" statement applies somewhere along the line. I think that the HMO option is free if you live in an area where it is offered. The traditional PPO costs around $200 a month for a family. |
Thanks for the info Scott. I heard there was a rumor going around of new hires going into the wide body but I thought that was a bit far fetched.
|
I wont say new hires are going to widebodies but a least the bid that closed early Aug had unfilled vacancies on 757/767. dca 4, ord 7, lax 10, sfo 7.
The bid at end of Aug. had numerous unfilled vacancies on narrowbody fleets around system led by A-320 in dca 26 unfiled. Back in late 90s new hires went into widebody fleet. Had some catches though if I remember right. |
is there any info on the kinds and types of questions asked at the interview? mine is not too far away and i am feeling a bit unprepared.

Brush up on some TMAAT scenarios you encountered. Standard questions involve testy situations w/ pax, possible late departures, conflict w/a crew member, etc. Unfortunately, there is the confidentiality agreement. What I discussed above is from folks who were hired several years ago. I don't think it will be much different minus the browbeating(s). Good luck. |
