Default Delta - Good vs Bad?

How's quality of life first 3 years at DAL?
What kind of schedule rookie might be able to get, avarage hours on the line, what kind of medical benefits you and your family gets, how hard or easy to get ATL? Thanks in advance.

That's kind of a trick question. First year pay is somewhere around $49/hr. If you get hired tomorrow and stay on the ATL MD-88 you will hold a line relatively quickly and life becomes much easier. If you bid up to larger equipment then you will be on reserve and life is not so good. Most of us that have been here a while are staying in the aircraft that we can hold the best schedule. The reserve system sucks and with PBS, our bidding system, if you are a junior line holder you will be flying every weekend on the crummy trips.

Just like with any airline hiring phase you want to get hired at the beginning of the cycle so you have the best quality of life. New hires are going to every aircraft seat other than the 777 and 767-400. We have hundreds of unfilled 767 international slots (see paragraph above for reason).

Good luck,

As a 2000 hire I'm dang glad to see new hires of property.

As a Jun 2007 new hire I'm dang glad to be on the property!

I just finished my IOE on the MD-88 out of ATL. I will be a commuter. So, I plan on staying on the Maddog so I can hold a line as quick as possible. I think the job is awesome.

Thanks for info, another question. Not knowing anyone who would recommend me at DAL and no 121 nor military, all 135. Do I have any chances trying or should I go to ASA for a year to pick up some 121? I'm sort of at a splitroads from this point, persuit fractionals or turn 180 and do what's required to try to get with DAL ?

You should go ahead and apply. Delta has hired 135 pilots in the past, I do not know why they would not hire 135 pilots now, especially if the equipment was something similar to a 150,000 jet and you got some PIC in it.

From a training standpoint, Delta is 121, so a 121 backgroung lends itself to what you will be doing at Delta. ASA still has some remains of Delta procedures floating around, making the transition just that much easier.

Like any major, you need to network who you know. But, it is not like most other majors where networking is a requirement. At Delta, there is a good chance of your getting noticed & called if you have a very strong background.

Delta's medical coverage is basic UHC, with a little higher co-pays and deductibles than ASA. It begins for you on day one and I think the rest of the family comes on board at the first of the month following your hire date. You might be able to get them covered on day one, but usually the first two weeks is needed to get the insurance, dependant, pass benefits, figured out by HR. They outsourced some of these functions and they are cautious about who they give pass benefits to.

Good v/s Bad; everything is trending in the right direction. The people are professional and friendly, there are many choices available for bidding, the Company is making money. I think many of us are cautious and wanting to ensure Delta's success continues.

Guard Dude,

Another new hire here - starting indoc on Monday. Are you in touch with anyone in your class that got the 76? How bad is the reserve? I have heard some say it isn't too heinous based on the high demand for 76 FOs right now...

Thanks!

APPLY! - I recently had a conversation with Brian Bolt about hiring/screening for interviews, and the gist of it is that they are looking at your whole package. Some people have gotten hired with 0 internals and 0 military. Everyone has a chance. The 3 on 1 interview is the key to success.

Dependents aren't in the system officially for the 1st month but coverage is back dated to your date of employment - so technically your family is covered from day 1 you would just need to pay up front to the doctor then resubmit to UHC. Or have the doctor delay billing to your insurance for 30 days.

Yes, NYC or ATL most likely although there were some SLC drops recently. Expect the majority (ie: not all but most) of new hires to see NYC at least initially.
