The award was flawed because it did not take the retirement of the East pilots in to account. In five years, West pilots will dominate the list. A twenty year East pilot will be junior to a relative new hire from the West. That's just not right.

Ahhh. Look at the carriers before the merger. AWA was making money while AAA didn't have enough cash left to make payroll. The merger costs were placed on the west sides sheets since we were the aquiring
airline Mr "know nothing at all".
As far as retirements go. It's awfully hard to retire from a liquadated company.

Those two on the left of the photo are either too cheap to have the stripe removed or their egos are too fragile to accept the fact that they're now first officers. Either way, it doesn't reflect favorably on either of them.

I guess that during my five years of furlough, I should've walked around wearing my uniform. I was a first officer forced back to the street by the reduction in fleet size.

Have the stripe removed? I'm not sure how your uniform is, but that would not work for NWA's. Who cares how many stripes are on the jacket anyway? It's the paycheck that counts.

It's true that it probably has a lot to do with money. A lot of our Captains bid off the DC-9 and 320 to go fly FO on the 330 or 747. Rather than pay $250 x 2 for a new jacket, I guess the company (FOM) allows them to continue to wear the jacket. No frail egos, just frail finances.....

Maybe USaiways(USAPA) and AWA(ALPA) can get together and hand a new proposals over to the company and subcontract pilot staffing. That way they could manage staffing levels, advancement, basing, pay for training, moves, benefits, erasing retirement funds, who can wear 4 stripes, whether it's "Cactus" or "US Air" regardless of the paint scheme, etc., seperately. That's pretty much how it's working now, right??? Two seperate airlines???

Or better yet,..

Each "Union" gets to put their pilots into any seat/aircraft position that they feel is appropriate based on career progression or DOH. The company agrees to pay each plot based on that 'mold'. Then the company can put the bodies into the slots that it actually needs. I think that would settle all of the compensation gripes out there. (Although the next round would be QOL whining...) Until the company went out of business and those pilots no longer had jobs. Then they would blame the management.

If they can't see history repeating itself and they continue down this road, I say adios. As someone said earlier, the only ones that win in a labor dispute, even if the company dies, are the lawyers and upper management.

So... if I spent 20 years in the military before being starting at Airline X, and the junior person in the class ahead of me is 28 years old--TEN years old when I was taking "kids" solo on my wing in a T-38--is it "total BS" that he is now senior to me?

Two weeks ago a Southwest captain tossed one of the pukes out of his cockpit. It's good to know the word is getting around as to what a bunch of sleaze bags these guys are.

An old Chinese proverb says: "Never judge a man unless you have walked 1000 miles in his shoes."

Whether you agree or disagree, you must respect their opinion. You may not have their perspective, but you didn't fly at a major 20 years and get stapled, either.

Andy, most carriers feel that if a pilot is ever designated "Captain", the four stripes stay on, even if he(or she) bids back to F/O or to the side saddle posit. And of course, the Old Chineese proverb " Walk a mile in another man`s shoes" certainly makes sense...You`ll have his shoes and a mile head start.

Well stated Max EPR !!

ALPA is exactly that, a confederation of flying clubs at various airlines. The ALPA national "leaders" under Dwayne Worthless were such a self serving group that they forgot what "representation" even means. The were in Washington to promote their own agendas and enjoy life inside the Beltway. The ALPO "Federation" is getting what they deserve as pilots see the light and jump ship.

Unfortunately, the group at United did not have the initial success that U.S. Airways pilots had but they have not given up and are still trying to get the votes to de-certify ALPO.
