Well, let's hope for your sake you'll be assigned the 737. A/c assignment is based on age, so here ya go. But sometimes, i.e. this summer, there wasn't any 737 slots available.

On the other side, there's plenty of Delta mainline flight to SFO or to SJC, so you should be alright. It's a long commute, but that's what you've signed up for:)

Welcome aboard Skippy! FYI, all your trips will start in Atlanta. If there is a DH at the end of the trip, scheduling may let you deviate. My understanding is they will not let you deviate at the beginning of a trip. Commuting will be tough from SFO in the summer as most of the flights are full. Rest of the year should be ok, but we have a limited number of SFO flights during the non-summer period. Can use DAL out of Oakland or SAC if they still do the nonstop to ATL. SAC is probably easier for you to get to if you live near Travis. You could always try a two hop commute to ATL on another carrier (UAL, AA, or CAL), but that is more stressful. Just remember you are joining an east coast airline and the center of the universe is ATL.

If you are retiring you can probably afford to stay in CA, otherwise you will have to dip into savings your first year to make ends meet (unless you are married and your spouse has a good job). When I commuted west coast to east coast, I always came in the day prior to any trip just to be safe. You've got the time zone thing working against you and you don't want to take chances on probation. Since we are taking 10 737 deliveries in 08, you will stand a good chance of getting one unless you are early thirties. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I guess it sucks for me, I just turned 31. The 737 and 717 are both awesome, so either if fine with me. If I had I choice, I would like the option to flying to SFO and Vegas, but I'll fly anywhere at this point. It is actually a quite easier drive for me to hop a flight from Sac to Atlanta. DAL has a few daily lines that are a direct flight. My wife and I have saved up a years mortgage payment on our house in Cali and have no other bills, so I am hoping that will hold us over. I look forward to starting training. Thanks for all the helpful information.

Yeah welcome aboard Skippy...I work up in the Operations Towers on C and D con in ATL....depending on who you eventually do your IOE with hopefully they will give you a tour of our ATL nerve center. Happy holidays!

I seriously doubt you'll get it. I'm 34 and missed it by 2 numbers in my class. I live in So Cal and was flying the 737 as a captain for Kitty Hawk, so you know I was bummed. The guy in front of me who missed it was also current on the fluf. Mid 30's and you have a chance. We are considering moving to make life easier, time will tell. Welcome aboard!
