I've been at express almost 11 years and life there has been good. It defiantly is not the same airline I signed up for back in 96, but then what airline is? It will be hard to give the QOL up but I got to see my kids grow up and now I feel like it time to move on. I've been going to as many interviews as I can just to get back into the game.
It's always better interviewing for a position when you have a job that you are happy with at the time. It allows you the leeway of saying, are you FN mad, thanks but no thanks not for me, the look on there face is priceless. There are allot of half ass operations out there hiring right now and I applied to all of them and got quiet a few interviews, even though I had no intentions of going there, its great practice. So when the major's call or whoever, you’re interviewing skills get better each time and you fell more relaxed. You have nothing to lose, you can say pretty much anything with no fear, and see how it goes over. I would highly recommend it. I even did the CAL interview again and turned them down again, but I did get to see some new material and that alone was worth it, they just are not for me, and as far as SW not for me either, I’m doing that now. I want to slow down not speed up. |
I'm not trying to be a smart a(* but good luck finding any airline that runs at the pace they did before 911. Best of luck.

Since you listed most 121 carriers out of the NJ/NYC area that you DO NOT want to work for, maybe you should look into Netjets, think they have a TEB base. Are you DW?

I was an intern for CAL[COLOR=black][FONT=Verdana], I could have been over there for three years now but chose to pass it up. The internship was great and can’t say enough about the guys I worked for, but they have to be one of the most divided pilot groups I have ever seen. !

Management is very good at making sure that it stays that way. You can cut the animosity between the bases with a knife.
Even with the young guys moving over they have no chance of getting a leading contract, when the time comes the IAH group running the show will vote in another POS contract and you can take that to the bank. I'm in this for the pay check one day and it will never be at CAL! |
If you went to CAL when you were first able, you would be upgrading on the 737 now. 2008 4th year blended 737 CA rate is $150/hr. Who cares about the "divided" pilot group. We are united against PBS and united for a good contract. There are tons of Express guys at CAL, some of the same ones that got the good Express contracts done. I'd put my future in CAL any day over some other choices.
It's was your choice and no one can fault you for your reasons, but you can't fault us for not understanding them. Good luck in whatever you do. |
Cargo UPS or FedEx but now that FedEx is sending or will likely send all new hires to Hongkong F...that. But I think I missed the boat on UPS now that the age 65 passed at least for a few years. I could get use to ANC; the rat race is getting old.
There are definitely gona be some M&A in are near future. I might hold my cards till all the dust settles, allot of new hires may hit the streets if that does play out and I don’t want too be one of them either. My wish list: UPS, Delta, NW, AA, British Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, last but not least corporate. I got my ICAO paper work out of the way last year, hell they act like they invented the plane. That **** was hard! UPS is still the best chose but it is like trying to get an audience with the pope. I don’t know anybody over there and a letter of rec form my local Brown truck drive doesn’t seem to do me any good. The gouge is that you really don’t need one now but it is very competitive and not to have one, I think is a mark against you. On-File for four months now. Active has to be better then On-File, if you applied there you will know what I'm talking about. On-file sucks! |
CAL, guys I'm not saying CAL sucks in anyway other then there POS contract but I have been working for them at Express for over 10 years and it is time to move on. Express still has all of CAL's culture working at Express is working at CAL. I want to start over somewhere new, learn a new culture that is what finding a new job is about. It hard to say it in words but I think you know what I mean?
I did not intend to come of as pompous about CAL and if I did I apologize that was not my intention. CAL has been very good to me and my family and I will never forget that. If I did not get the internship through CAL I know I would not be in the position that I’m now and for that I’m grateful. But that is not what this thread is about, I just wanted to know about NYC bases because know one ever seems to talk about them, being that they are undesirable, so I thought to ask. |
If I were you I would be looking at Cathay Pacific also. I looked into getting the JAR ATP, and I decided against that pain.
