2nd year at NWA?

Hate to be a pain but, anybody have a "quesstimate" of the possible FO position second year at NWA? i.e., could there be a possibility of getting a 757, or BIGGER slot the second year? Don't laugh.:D
I know UAL has a three year lock on equipment...

You will be able to hold 75 FO in the second year for sure...however, 747/330 FOs might take some time.

i was told it might be possible to hold it in 6 months. FWIW

Now, I'm 2 months shy of 11 yrs at NWA.

-9 Cpt - middle of pack reserve DTW, jr block MSP

F/O postions
330 - would be 4 from bottom of reserve
400 - hoping to get reserve postion next awards anouncement
787- wont give awards until Nov - Dec '08. I wont be close
747- Maybe in 3-5 months. 4th on list for ANC, 7th for MSP.*

* MSP 747-200 base opening within 2 months. Expect some displacements from ANC to MSP.

Should give you some idea what to expect. Doesn't mean things wont change though.

So do you think a newbie, would hold 747 so in MSP?

Dont have a crystal ball. As of now, 17 people preferencing MSP SO 747R.
Eleven have displacement rights, #17 hired 04/'01.

Things can and will change for the next award. How they'll change, who knows.

 Not sure where the 'for sure' information is coming from. 757 FO is a very senior position. If it was possible to get that in the second year make sure you live in MSP or DTW because commuting to reserve sucks...been there, done that, got the dirty t-shirt.:)

Let me try and clarify what others are saying. All new hires are currently going to the DC-9 reserve. You will have a block in about 3 months. If you want 320 reserve, about 9-12 months after hire would be close. If you want 757 reserve, about 16-20 months after hire. If you want 320 block, it will take about 16-18 months, and 757 block about 20-24 months. The company is maxed out on training DC-9 FO's, and wants to put new hires into the 320 or 757 to alleviate the training bottleneck. It hasn't happened yet, but might in the near future. If you are a new hire and put in the 320 or 757, you can expect a LONG time on reserve (see above estimates) before you get a block. Reserve if you are commuting sucks, but if you live in base, they don't get worked very hard.

What about 747 SOs?

747 SO is going pretty senior. Age 65 will change this position, so it's too soon to know. But right now, reserve could happen in about 2 years, block in about 2 1/2 to 3 years.
