American Airlines hiring minimums

Quick question for the AA guys, what were the hiring minimums when hired?

JungleBus 01-21-2008 01:11 PM

...and those who were there, ever have any pterodactyl strikes? How bout woolly mammoths, did they ever wander onto the airports?

:D

Ha! I'm laughing loudly in my hotel room all alone! First post for me after years of lurking, and look what I'm responding too! Classic.

"Qualifications commensurate with experience" or something along those lines (Cecil Ewell friends&family program). I think the Kude put a stop to that and instituted some kind of hourly min's but I can't quite remember... something around 1500 PIC, maybe?

Anyway, we'll teach you how to properly salute once you hit new hire school. (along with taking the donut ring out of your hat for that 50 mission Sky Nazi look.) :D

What hiring mins "were" does not matter. Case in point, the last time American was hiring a FE written was required. When they start to hire the minimums will reflect the state of the industry at that time. Keep in mind that minimums are typically not competitive at the majors - that is unless you knew somebody, like Cecil at American or Plato at DAL . Although I heard plenty of people had luck stalking them in parking lots and elevators.

"Unless you knew somebody"

You should see that put to test in Europe ... literally who you know.

Not much mystery here. Still over 1000 on furlough, and only recalling those guys (or should I say "us guys") at a trickle. Plus age 65...? Not sure who told you otherwise, but I would not waste a lot of effort figuring out how to fill out that AA app - if you can even find one.

Sorry to bust your bubble.:(

Not at all, no worries. I have a few contacts over there and I recently got in touch and they were giving me the scoop on the company. From what I understand there is no more flow from AE and a lot of guys will be retiring??? Retirement seems like the smartest option for some of the guys, who would want to lose there pension just to stay on board for another 5 years?

FalconFlyer 01-21-2008 10:04 PM

I know a Captain who is retiring early (before 60) to get the most out of his retirement and pension. Don't think there's enough pilots doing it for AA to start hiring anytime soon though.

haha just some girl who banged a wing-tip on landing and FO took over went around, she freaked out all hysterical...................................weeks later she is in a new-hire class at CAL............. (this is one of the stories I have heard) Might be off slightly, but basically she smacked the wing-tip on like a 10kt crosswind and ended up at CAL

I know a couple of Navy/Marine helo guys that got hired by American. the inly fixed wing time they had was as a T-34C instructor with approximately 2,000 hrs.

I saw 2 retirements on the board in Houston two days ago. There pictures were signed like they were the most popular guys ever to fly for Cal.

Those with absolutely no life outside of their job.

olympic 01-22-2008 07:37 AM

I would retire at 60 take my pension and never look back. A lot can happen in 5 years, and American is the only company with a pension.

Cal still has there's, but for how long?

This was before age 60 changed, but I heard CAL lost about 30-40 777CA's in 2 months to Jet Airways. They took their pensions and ran, plus they got to fly past 60 and were still based in EWR.

I think we should pass the hat around and see if we can get them some grown-up entertainment to dance at their finny flights..........I love those guys:D

That helped a lot. I was expecting to see 176 captain reductions on this bid, 37 isn't that bad in comparison. The divorce-pension-remarried guys also stood up to the plate too:cool:.

It's great they left Cal and managed to work out their marital woes. You can't ask for a better conclusion than that.

Agree 110%. No hiring for 3-4 years, earliest. I'd bet my retirement on it, without hesitation.

I know for a fact, she did bang a wingtip, she was the FO and she is now at CAL, in fact, she was one of the first ones hired off the street once the flow thru was done. The CA grabbed the plane from her too late, and no, she didn't freak out, she didn't even realize that she screwed up! The CA ended up having to do a nice little ride with the FAA, which he did a great job with by the way...oh, and she was an intern over there after college, total time around 1200 when she went over, 0 PIC.

between 1200+ furloughed to recall, and contract negotiations that are going to get VERY ugly.. I doubt they'll hire too soon from now. But FWIW, I was hired in 2001 with 3600TT, 2600 multiengine-turbine and 500 PIC in the ATR72. I had a degree and was 30. I knew nobody, but went to a pilot hiring convention and hit it off with one of their recruiters (a 767 Checkairman), who to this day is a good friend.

Networking was probably what got me in with only 3600.
