I'll vote no for anything less than a 45% raise for every year and even more for the first year. No more concessions!

cal pay
otto...
Are you really going to vote no if capt wb pay is less than $274/hr? I know the rates are down, but I'm not sure you can get it all back in one fell swoop. JMO Pilot7576 |

All these numbers are approximate, but you get the idea
In the last 3 years: UPS has signed a huge contract. 2nd year FO will be $148/hr Max capt will be around $260/hr FedEx has signed a huge contract Numbers similar to UPS Netjets has signed a huge contract...TWICE!! Both times with massive pay raises Flexjet has had a huge pay raise about a 30% raise, even higher for first year FO Southwest pays their top 737 captains $200/hr, and they are in negotiations with a raise on the way Meanwhile, American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, United, and US Air have taken pay cuts from 30-50%, lost their pensions, and lots of work rules. Why can't these airlines just have what they had in 2000??? The biggest misconception is that legacy airlines could not afford these 9/11 contracts. That is completely false. 9/11, and the ensuing recession changed this industry big time. The industry needed some readjustment. Pilots gave concessions to help them reorganize. But that is over. They have all emerged from bankruptcy as successful carriers. These airlines all made around $500 million dollars in profits (each) this year, with record high fuel prices. The money is there! The precident has already been set. And they can take it back all in one swoop. Baby steps are for the regionals. This is the big leagues. United pilots got a 48% raise in 2000. They can do it again. Just like FedEx, UPS, Flexjet and Netjets have done in the past few years. Personally, I am going to look at a pre 9/11 contract whenever a TA is presented. If it does not meet or exceed the pre 9/11 contract, I am voting NO. Period. |
I just hope the rest of the CAL pilot group can band together, but it is good to see that some are already ahead of this.
I, fortunately, spent a few years getting ready for the trouncing in pay and have a buffer. I can't imagine what most are having to do to make it through, but yes, it is time to get paid not just for the 70+ hours of block time, but the actual time and investment it takes to make it through the month. |

Though I am borderline living at the poverty level while enjoying my CAL 757 trips, I think it is very unwise to continue to compare legacy pay with cargo (UPS/FDX) pay. C'mon guys, it's simple economics. There aren't nearly as many new entrants encroaching on their turf as we are faced with. Let's compare apples with apples. You and I both know we don't shop around when we need to ship a package, as there aren't many choices. That being said, I don't know of a single person who doesn't consistently look at travelocity, priceline, kayak, (insert travel .com of choice) when selecting a passenger ticket. Though not a simple solution, the only answer is less capacity and fewer choices to drive yields up. I think the word is: consolidation. Can't say I'm in favor of it, but perhaps after I'm furloughed due to such a thing, everyone will have higher wages at the new Continited or Delwest mega-airline. Now that I sound like a communist, I'll bow out. Cheers!

The reason I mentioned the FedEx and UPS have signed huge contracts with HUGE raises is to show that you don't need to take babysteps. Ask for everything you feel you deserve this contract. Babysteps are for regionals. This is the big leagues. And by the way, I don't understand why we can't compare airlines like American and United to FedEx and UPS. Yes FedEx and UPS are the two largest cargo airlines, but American and United are the 3rd and 4th largest cargo airlines. To me that is comparing apples to apples. The money is there. You just need to negotiate. |
