Plane searched at LAX after threat
LOS ANGELES -- A United Airlines jetliner was being searched Monday after landing safely at Los Angeles International Airport following the receipt of a telephoned threat, authorities said.
The Boeing 757 jetliner, which departed from JFK International Airport in New York City, landed shortly after noon and taxied to a remote location at the western end of LAX, said Nancy Castles of Los Angeles World Airports. There were 71 passengers and crew aboard Flight 23, Castles said Laura Eimiller of the FBI said authorities, including explosives "There was a telephonic threat to United Airlines Flight 23," Eimiller said. She declined to elaborate, saying only that the incident was under investigation. Those UAL flights from JFK to LAX and SFO are "Premium Service" and are configured 12/26/72, so 71 is not quite as bad as it sounds. Although the flights do usually run pretty close to full. There are usually some high rollers in first and business making the small number of seats for a 757 cost effective. Or so they tell us!
