Default is a recommendation required at Continental?

I don't know a soul at Continental, and I've heard that you don't have much chance of getting an interview without an internal recommendation. I've also heard of people getting interviews without recs, but they weren't hired.

What's the deal?

No recommendation is equired, but like anywhere else it helps. With thousands of canidates to choose from if an individual can get the nod from someone on the inside it is bound to make the HR person's job easier. Good luck, and don't give up jut because you don't have a inside recommendation.

I don't think it's a requirement to have any internal letters of recommendation with CAL, but most of the people I know that got interviews had several on file, and still only got the call after having at least one person walk in their resume to one of the Chief Pilots. CAL is known for being a tough nut to crack.

If you have the opportunity to jumpseat in a CAL cockpit, or chat up a pilot in a terminal or on an overnight, I would do that. Mention that you've applied, and often they'll offer to walk your stuff in. It would also be good to carry copies of your resume with you just in case. Good luck!

Go to an AIR Inc conference and make a good impression on the rep you meet there. It's as good as a recc. I'm proof.

Concur ... I didn't have an internal rec, but did a "one on one" pre-screen at the Washington DC Air Inc job fair in Sep 07 ... can't say for sure if that was the ticket to my interview & subsequent job offer, but that's my gut feeling ... many things go into the hiring equation here at CAL ... put as many of them into your basket as you can.

I have two letters from F.O.'s and a letter from a guy in management and I haven't heard a word for the last two years of applying at CAL. I have not pre screened but at this point i doubt they will ever call me. 5500TT and 2000 PIC Jet 200 PIC T-prop. Go figure maybe I am just not meant to be there. Good Luck!!

It really takes you to either have someone walk your stuff in to a chief pilot or to meet the HR director at a Air Inc conference. Someone walked my stuff in and then I did a meet and greet two weeks later with a phone call the next week. A friend of mine did a summer Air Inc conference and he got a call a few weeks later. Try and have someone vouch for you and walk your stuff in to a CP or anyone in the training center. 90% you will get a phone call this way.

Thanks guys. My wife is going to the Women in Aviation Conference in San Diego Next month and maybe I should tag along. I know another guy that got an interview at Delta doing that.
