Historically, how junior or senior is the DCA/IAD base?

Like with most of the majors in the past couple years, they will drag their feet and balk at doing anything and suddenly they will be forced to act. I think the 18 month timeframe is reasonable. Then they will have to hire a lot. Besides, by then we'll have a better idea on the age-65 thing and how it'll affect attrition.

seems to be "middle of the road". some recalls are going there. historically it seems to be about average. e.g. any body can get there. might be on reserve longer than if you were in LGA or ORD.

DC started going super senior back in mid 90s when the RDU base closed - there was a mass migration of RDU folks up there. It stayed very senior until mid last year when we started seeing movement and upgrades. Right now recalled folks, as OFD said, are getting awarded DC after only a month or so on the line.

Having been based in DC my first two years, I will say this. Small base, everyone knows each other. VERY small IAD operation, pretty much limited to flights to DFW on the MD80, MIA on the 737, SJU on the 757, and a couple of transcons to LAX on the 737/757. Most of the flying is out of DCA (MD80, 737) and BWI (MD80, 757.)

Hope this helps.

Any info would be appreciated.

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. You'll die of old age before AA is hiring, or before AA ever comes out of the cr*pper. Wear your Dad's old jackets and stuff, but there are much better places to be for you. Just my opinion.

Is your opinion based on your experience flying for AA? I am not saying I am waiting to apply to AA as it does not appear AA will be hiring anytime in the near future or maybe not even in the next 2 years, but what's so bad about AA that you think he should not even bother with AA?

Labor relations at AA are probably at an all-time low, which is really really low. Wait until the next pilot contract is ratified, then make a judgment. Like most airlines, you don't work there because it's a good place to work. You work there because the compensation is good enough to put up with depressing corporate culture.

It's all relative. I've got friends all over this industry that say the same thing about their respective employer.

Right now we have A LOT of unhappy first officers, for good reason. Many have been in the right seat for over 17 years with no end in sight.

Whenever AA starts hiring off the street, they need to give first preference to Texans. We've been waiting a long time. We are ready to stop commuting.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if and when you get hired at AA and you live in Texas, you had better plan on commuting for a long time. DFW is VERY senior. So senior, in fact, that the junior FO there was hired in 1999.
