I attended a job interview at Piedmont a few weeks back, the HR man told us that Piedmont is well positioned in the market with their Dash 8's. He said everyone is trying to get rid of the RJ's due to the operating cost on a leg of 200 miles (I believe he said) or less. It must be true if he said it...right? Turboprops are the way of the future...the way of the future...the way of the future...the way of the future.

Wow, didn't know it could get that bad with weight issues. I'm glad I never have to really deal with any W&B issues.
I think CAL really wanted us to release the 69 aircraft to them, since the CRJ's they got for RAH to replace us, run into weight issues now and then, and we end up taking a good amount of bags for them. Way to go CAL!! I'm just glad Ream gave Larry the good 'ol gotcha on that one. At least on our branded and charter side we never get any peeved passengers.

It was good to see a Regional stand their ground and stick it to the man like that...If only we could see a little bit more of that. A regional revolution, perhaps!

Not in Delta service they don't. The total number of 76 seat jets allowed by the DAL PWA is 30 in 2008. This can be increased by three per mainline aircraft added. However the total Delta Connection 51 seat-76 seat RJ fleet is limited to 200 jets so if they get three more 76 seaters they would have to eliminate an equal number of smaller RJs if it bumped up against the 200 jets limit. Theoretically if Delta added 57 mainline aircraft after 2008 then you could have up to 200 76 seaters but all the 70's would have to be eliminated as the total number of 51-70 seaters plus 76 seaters cannot exceed 200.

SkyWest has 17 of the 76 seat airplanes, all in Delta service. 4 more were ordered in November 2007, also for Delta service.

Stay tuned for Delta's strategic plan that is supposed to be unveiled today. The title of this thread may prove prophetic as I doubt the fleet plan will be replete with rjs. Good luck to all.

At the end of the day everything feeds everything. The problem isn't the size of the airplane per se, it's the frequency and therefore added cost. Everything has its place, even the 50-seat "RJ". The issue is sending the 50-seaters between major city pairings every 20-30 minutes. That is what is expensive and causing all the backups into places like LGA, etc.
