Ref:ATP Requirement for CAL

Hello all Fellow Aviator's and Aeronautical Thespians, long time reader of this forum first time poster.

Good question, one I had to ask the Chief Pilot in EWR about recently,

1. ALL Applications are now done online at AIRLINEAPPS DOT COM. They won't even consider anything else. The hourly minimums are posted there.

2. ATP written is a MUST.........ATP TICKET not necessary since, if you get hired and get through ground school they will combine an ATP checkride WITH your TYPE ride. (ALL PILOTS are TYPED)

3. IF you don't have college it is not an automatic down. Life experiences and ANY college courses will enhance the Application. The chief said something about "they just want to know if hired you can reasonablly be expected to pass the ground school training." L.O.R.'s are next, those coming from current CAL Pilots/employees get consideration. So if you know any Pilots or employees at CAL that would give you a Rec. it will help alot. and Remember it may only get you the interview.......also DON"T DO WHAT I HEARD AN PPLICANT DO WHEN HE GOT A RECOMMENDATION FROM A FELLOW CAL PILOT This guy had applications in at TWO AIRLINES and was INTERVIEWED at both and WAS ACCEPTED AT BOTH, and HE TURNED DOWN THE CAL ONE!!!! Made the guy who Recommended him look like an A-s..........The other airline I think was SWA or JB where he had no recommendations.

hope this helps some what. This was passed on to me because I was asked for a L.O.R. from a fellow pilot friend and sought out the newest hiring criteria.

keep the shiney side up

KB, Maybe the 757 in EWR has better trips than IAH but I was based in EWR on the 737 and was bidding number 37 out of 350 and I still couldn't hold a commutable line of time on both ends line.

Transferred to IAH and was more junior, but held very commutable lines.

as i said, "possibl[e] better commutability"... :)

i've only been special assigned to EWR so what do i know? if you discount the commutability, are the trips better? i do know they used to be.

Nope,

The trips out of IAH are much better.

Been in both seats in both bases.......EWR 737 trips are better in my opinion. But .........I hate going south of the border......so I am biased a bit.

Hey guys how about some estimations for holding a line?

737 EWR?
75/76 EWR?

Also do they provide positive space travel back and forth to home during training?

Thanks for the info.

catIIIc 02-07-2006 08:44 AM

Line on the 737 probably less then 3 months and on the 76 6-8. Yes they do positive space travel to and from home during training.
