Default Continental Info?

Hey Continental folks,

A few questions about newhires.

1] If one has the choice, do you pick the 737 or 757 and why?

2] How long is it taking to get off reserve for the 737 and 757 [EWR]

3] How long would it take to get CLE based and is CLE only a 737 base?

4] Are you paid during intial training and does the company pay for the hotel?

Thanks for any information on these areas. Looking forward to maybe joining the Continental team.

1) 737. less time on reserve. june '05 hires are holding lines now. plus, once off of probation, the 757/767 is only paying 50% deadhead, changing to 75% in may or so, then 100% in may '07. but all the expansion is on the 757/767 now so the reserves are being hammered.

2) i would assume as the 757/767 becomes more junior (it was the most junior airplane on our recent bid, in EWR at least) it will be quicker to hold a line.

3) CLE is relatively senior. probably a couple of years at least.

4) you are paid from day one and the company pays for your hotel, no roommates.

Kill Bill or other Continental dudes...

What is the time frame to hold a line in Houston?

And the A and B reserve... A being the short one (like 2 hour call out) and B being the longer (9 hour call out) right? How long to hold the 9 hour reserve call out in Houston?

a = long, b = short.

the 9-hour, i don't think, is very senior. it only guarantees 72 hours vs 76 for the b, plus the company can take it away from you twice without any increase in pay. all in all, not a good deal unless you commute from a short distance. if you live in LAX, it's not going to allow you to sit EWR or IAH reserve at home. if you live in SAT or DFW, and you're IAH-based, it will probably work for you since you can drive.

IAH is the most senior base. the bottom 737 FO lineholder in Feb is an april '05 hire.

Thanks for the info... yeah I'd be living in Dallas or OKC or Austin (its up to the little lady where she wants to be while I'm gone!)

What do you mean when you say that the company can take it away from you twice without pay increas? what can they take away from you?

they can, with the 9-hour notice, convert you to a 2-hr "B" reserve with no extra pay twice in a month wthout paying you anything extra. this is essentially half of your month since reserve lines are usually built with 4 sets of days on duty. there goes your ability to sit in DFW or AUS on reserve for half of the month.

average reserve usage varies wildly. EWR reserves seem to fly their hinders off; IAH reserves may get to sit.

i was a IAH 737 CA reserve all summer and had to beg to fly. i flew about 40 hours in a busy month. the EWR guys on both the 737 and 757/767 had days off rolled constantly and flew 80 hours plus most months and worked virtually every reserve day.

but EWR definitely has far better trips than houston, more variety, more destinations, and possibly better commutability.

To Kill Bill or CALpilot

Do any of you guys have any inside information regarding CAL hiring criteria. I put my applied back in April 05, when they first opened the window, have two LOR on the system and still haven't been called. Based on what I see on some of these threads they are big on XJT and other Regional guys or gals, and I am neither. Any information is appreciated
Fly safe!!

Everything you said made sense to me except the above statement. By "expansion" do you mean more planes? Doesn't more planes translate to demand for more pilots, and therefore more lines? So if anything, this will translate to depleting the reserves.

But maybe I totally misunderstood you. Please clarify. Thanks!
