FL is still taking new 737's this year (4). The newest -700 is in Miami as we speak getting winglets added.

Still ~150 new hires on the schedule for the rest of the year. (60% 737/30% 717) No new classes until late July/early August.

This is what I heard from training dept gurus on Thursday. YMMV.

Thanks for the update ... I'm patiently standing by in the AirTran "pool" and hoping the new hire classes will resume this summer.

SG and JD said about the same thing when I spoke with them a week ago in ATL. This is the current plan unless something changes. The last growth target I heard was 5% for the year. I also heard they are exploring potential crew bases and LAS was among those mentioned. I doubt anything will happen until we get a contract finished. DISCLAIMER-everything subject to change until it happens!

Carl P,
Did you hear the next class was July/Aug timeframe or are you talking about growth? What happened to MCO? I thought that was a done deal for a base. So does mention of LAS imply AT is pushing hard to the West now? Another one of those guys in the "pool" (not to sound like a SWA guy) just wanting employment

LAS? That's the first time I've ever heard that one.

LAS - Could be a tough road ahead there with SWA, JBLU, VA, Spirit, not to mention Delta, USAir, NWA, UAL, and AA all competing with each other. Not sure if Skybus flew into LAS but I know ATA and Champion did.

I haven't heard of specific dates, but they are planning to run further classes this year for now.

As for a LAS crew base, I would guess it's just another on a list of possible places. The pilot who told me about it is a buddy who heard it directly from BF and it was just that numbers were being looked at. Probably part of a "possible" scenario that may or may not come to pass. MCO is an often mentioned base. I doubt anything will happen until after the contract, but maybe some more seasoned AT vets can chime in.
