Delta Winter Hiring with Merger?

So the word being put out by folks here is that Delta should pick up hiring again this winter in anticipation of aircraft deliveries next year. Do you think that will still occur if Delta and Northwest merge? Hopefully it won't be so bad that they furlough any of the guys hiried recently, but it doesn't seem like a merger for "consolidation and efficiency" would include new hires.

I think that all of the uncertainty in the airline industry as a whole--and specifically at DAL and NWA with the merger possibility--makes it impossible to know now when hiring will start again.

......
If they park the 9's no.
If they do not yes.
If they park the 9's and roll compass in yes.

Needless to say no one knows.

The "word on the street" around here (ATL) is that instead of a true merger, the two are trying to form a holding company. Two airlines under one banner. Total coordination of schedules, but two seperate senority lists.Interesting concept. We`ll see......

not a good concept to happen for the pilots. This would allow whipsawing between the two groups.

One paper made that comment and others picked it up and repeated it. Both the NWA and Delta contracts contain strict provisions against such an attempt by the company. Neither union will waive that provision I can assure you. From a pilot standpoint nothing could be worse. If they merge the airlines it will be one airline.

Absolutely!! We would be far better off merging lists than letting mgmt try and whipsaw. They would play us against each other. Not going to happen!! The unions would shut that down in a heartbeat. We HAVE to start working together so we can be in the drivers seat in this as opposed to mgmt bending us over throughout this whole thing.

The future looks bleak as we are ruled by the Hedge funds and management. Pilots have no say!
